The file sizes for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, on the upcoming consoles from Sony and Microsoft, have been revealed by Activision and they’re massive… shocking absolutely no-one. While fans are excited to return to an authentic Black Ops experience (no one liked Black Ops IV) what most are interested in beyond faster load times and ray-tracing tech is how much storage space they’ll need. Call of Duty has had a rough year in terms of storage space. The standalone battle royale mode Warzone was criticised for its ludicrous file size, clocking in at over 200GB. While Black Ops: Cold War isn’t at that…

Last night DJI decided to boldly wade through all the US election posts to finally announce its Mini 2 drone, one of the company’s smallest devices to date that’s still surprisingly powerful. The announcement raised a few eyebrows when the Mini 2 was first revealed because, as I’m sure you’ve no doubt already noticed, its name isn’t preceded by “Mavic” which is a weird direction for DJI to take it’s brand when the Mavic Mini is such a well-known and beloved model of drone but there’s no doubt method to company’s madness. We think. The DJI Mini 2 is tiny,…

With the announcement of Apple’s upcoming “One Last Thing” event next week, reports indicate that the company will finally implement its own chips in the (probably) soon-to-be announced MacBook range. The Arm-based chips, developed by Apple, will debut next week, marking an end to what has been a fifteen year relationship between Apple and Intel, who was been responsible for the chips in nearly every other MacBook. It’s like watching friends go through a break-up but neither are your friends and one’s actually pretty evil but also going on to do cool stuff so… mixed emotions all around. The three…

You’ve definitely seen that episode of a sci-fi TV show where your favourite characters shrink down to the size of tiny microbes and enter the body of a supporting character to fix some kind of ailment. The episode usually consists of a quick tour of the human body and will require at least one character to make about about exiting that way. It’s become such a trope in recent years that seeing the tiny 3D printed Star Trek vessel produced by physics researchers, I half expected to see the cast of Futurama waving from one of the little windows. Which is actually unfair because while…

We collect so much junk on WhatsApp that most of us probably don’t even recognise that it’s happening. There’s a constant flood of photos, memes and gifs to our devices and it’s such a pain to remove them. We imagine it would be a painful process… we don’t really get sent many images. Or messages at all actually. On the plus side, we don’t need to worry about a phone’s storage space being filled up with useless garbage! Yet if you’re one of those popular people, then you’ll be stoked to know that WhatsApp’s expanded storage options are rolling out to…

We love electric cars here at Stuff. We’ve waxed lyrical about them in the past with our current favourite being the Mini Cooper SE 2020 which we drove around Joburg not too long ago. They’re just so much fun to drive and we’ll always jump at the opportunity to climb into the driver’s seat, press the acceleration down further than we should, take off at a speed we weren’t expecting and then continue to drive at a normal speed because we’re still quaking in our boots. That’s the standard electric car experience, it’s a whole load of fun. BMW is no…

We go back and forth on whether we actually like the idea of instant messaging apps. See, it’s really nice to always immediately be in contact with friends and family but it also super-duper sucks to always be in contact with friends and family. They’re nice to have during a pandemic, sure but sometimes, it’s nice to just put your phone down and not have to worry about a messaging coming asking for some unnecessary task to be completed for the office or “please, we need to get your aunt to the hospital”. Man, so annoying, right? With so many instant…

More people should be talking about the Playdate because… I mean come on, just look at it! The tiny handheld console reminds one of an age where everyone had a Gameboy in their back pocket and gaming didn’t require at least 720p resolution. Of course, the Playdate offers a similar experience except with more… crank. The device is controlled with two face buttons, a direction pad and, most unconventionally, a side-mounted crank. We’ve played games with some weird peripherals before but I don’t think we’ve ever controlled anything with a crank, beyond maybe that small crane that sits behind the…

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: Every app under the sun that wants to be taken seriously by consumers and users needs to have a dark mode. Beyond the fact that it lessens the strain on your eyes when you’re aimlessly scrolling through social media, dark mode just generally fits with the aesthetic of more phones, unless you happen to like those devices that look like glossy pearls. Despite it being one of the most established platforms for upwards of a decade now, Facebook mobile has yet to receive the dark mode treatment which, fortunately for everyone…

It’s easy to forget that the massive technology giants of the world actually just want to thrash one another. You see them sitting side by side during anti-trust hearings and one could be fooled into thinking that they’re all friends but let’s be logical about this. If Apple could tear Google’s figurative heart from its chest and crush it underneath it’s overpriced boot that didn’t come with a charger, it definitely would. Why does Apple’s boot need a charging cable? I don’t know, the metaphor got away from me for a second. Apple’s Safari explorer has always been a pretty…
