Plague Inc., the game about spreading a deadly virus across the world, became incredibly popular in 2020 for reasons no-one is entirely sure of. Maybe it had something to do with the global COVID-19 pandemic that’s still going on in real life? It’s impossible to say. What we do know is that the game’s latest update, titled “The Cure”, is now available to all users on iOS and Android devices for free. The new mode flips the game on its head. While Plague Inc. is all about spreading the deadly virus, The Cure reverses the whole process. Instead of infecting…

The week started off strong for Apple with the announcement of the next range of Macs (fitted with Apple’s first in-house processors) and it looks to be ending well for them too. MacOS Big Sur, Apple’s latest operating system, is rolling out to a compatible Mac near you and you should definitely be excited about that. Big Sur is one of the biggest software updates Apple has rolled out in years and it brings with it a range of neat features. Big Sur includes a complete redesign of the interface, a new control centre that’s been pulled from iOS devices,…

It wasn’t that long ago that we saw WhatsApp introducing self-destructing messages. The feature allows users to send messages that delete themselves seven days later. This functionality has been improved for Facebook’s other instant messaging apps, Instagram and Messenger, in the form of Vanish Mode. It sounds like the name of a very low-budget magician’s show but it’s certainly much cooler than that. Vanish Mode evolves WhatsApp’s self-destructive messages, placing more emphasis on immediacy. Now users on either app can send messages that delete themselves as soon as they are viewed and the chat is closed. Which kinda just sounds…

With Christmas looming over the horizon, it’s a pretty good show that Sony managed to wrangle a few extra PlayStation 5s for South Africa. Starting tomorrow, you can pre-order your next-gen console from Koodoo, the official distributor of the PlayStation 5 in South Africa. Having said that, it’s worth bearing in mind how quickly the console sold out when the initial wave of pre-orders hit in September, so maybe be ready for 08:00 tomorrow, 13 November. The next batch of next-gen PlayStations will be ready for delivery between 16 and 20 December, meaning that hopefully, you won’t be disappointing your…

Google Photos, one of the best ways to store and back up all your photos to the cloud, is adjusting how its storage works. While the app used to allow for an unlimited amount of data to be stored on it, that intangible number is dropping to just 15GB. It’s still a decent amount of storage space for images but certainly not as much as “infinity”. Okay, that might be excessive. Still, whatever word you want to use, it’s a downgrade. This policy of limiting storage space doesn’t just apply to Google Photos; Drive and Workspace will also have documents…

Oh Leica, you quirky bunch of crazies. We adore admiring your strange cameras that buck every trend we’ve accepted. The company’s new Q2 Monochrom camera is no different, going to opposite route to Nikon and Canon be de-emphasising the colour. Which is to say, the Q2 Monochrom takes photos that don’t have… any colour. Only black and white images are allowed around Lecia’s latest and honestly, we’re okay with that. The Q2 Monochrom isn’t the first of Leica’s cameras that have really honed in on black and white photography. It acts as an expansion to the M-series, which unite that…

If you’ve ever wanted to arrange a lift home from a party being held a month away, then Uber Reserve is here to answer your prayers. The app’s new feature allows Uber users to book a ride up to 30 days in advance, meaning you always be sorted for a ride home from the airport. It’s not like there aren’t a load of drivers always willing to respond but it’s nice for those folks that like to be sure. Uber has allowed passengers to schedule rides for some time now — since 2016 in fact — but Uber Reserve is…

We don’t know how many people actually use WhatsApp to sell goods and services but clearly the number is high enough. Why? Because the instant messaging app is rolling out a dedicated button for shopping. If you’re communicating with someone on WhatsApp Business, which aims to connect brands with customers and vice versa, you can now tap a little storefront icon in the chat window to be taken directly to a catalogue of products. The brief video explanation released by WhatsApp shows off the button rather neatly. Not that there’s much that’s complicated about it. Tap it and look at…

We’ve heard a great deal about Apple’s new range of Mac machines but the one we’re most excited about is the new, updated MacBook Pro. The first MacBook Pro to be equipped with Apple’s new M1 chip and Big Sur MacOS, the specs seem to be off the charts. So what exactly does the MacBook Pro do? Well, let’s break down some of those specs. The M1 chip is bringing some pretty impressive leaps forward for the Pro. The new CPU is up to 2.8x faster than previous generations and the GPU is capable of running at 5x the speed…
