Netflix has been booming this year. It makes sense, right? Given how most of the world has been stuck inside with little to do, Netflix became a crutch of entertainment for many looking to just escape the world around them. It’s a good thing then that the video-on-demand streaming giant charges a very reasonable rate to access all that content. If we’re honest, the fact that you can get Netflix Premium in South Africa for just R170 a month is wild considering the Showmax Pro costs a whopping R450 a month for less content. One can only hope then that the news…

You ever looked at your WhatsApp and thought, “It’s nice but I just wish it was a little more… me”. If you have then you’ve no doubt already experimented with WhatsApp’s very limited range of wallpaper options. Sure, you can set a custom wallpaper for your chat screen but you can’t do much else. It sort of awkwardly fits into a chat window, remains the same for every chat and just doesn’t look all that great most of the time. While it’s certainly not a necessary improvement, it’s nice to know that WhatsApp is in the process of overhauling the…

LinkedIn has probably never felt more used outside of this year, largely because it’s the only place people can really look for work these days. That’s the result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has resulted in plenty of businesses downscaling dramatically or shutting their doors entirely. It’s been a real nightmare for many desperate folks just trying to find work because… well, where does one even start if you can’t even leave the house? Well, LinkedIn has been everyone’s go-to platform to find work and running with that surge in use, the Microsoft owned social media platform is expanding to offer…

1TB is an excessive amount of memory but given the way things are going, it might be necessary. One of the more irritating aspects of the iPhone is the fact that you can’t expand on its storage. Plenty of other smartphone producers continue to provide a slot for a microSD card to expand the device’s existing storage capacity but that would be too simple for Apple. Instead, if you’re concerned that you’re the type of user that stuffs their device with loads of stupid garbage that you’ll look at once and then never again, you’re forced into purchasing an iPhone…

It’s been a pretty solid year for Xiaomi, the Chinese company that could. It’s consistently put out some fantastic budget phones that just seemingly do way more than you’d expect for the price. While it’s been out for a few months now, we recently got our hands on Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9, a phone that’s designed to supposedly provide the experience of high-end flagship model without costing you a firstborn child. That’s the joy of budget smartphones, especially in a country like ours where actually entering into the smartphone environment is difficult at best and seemingly impossible in the direst…

Xbox Game Pass might be the thing that convinces users to go all in the Xbox Series X. With the next generation of consoles just a few weeks away, people are frothing to get their hands on the new hardware but, as with most new console launches, there aren’t really that many games to go around. That’s a problem Microsoft is hoping to address with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a service that providers subscribers access to a library of over a hundred games for an exceptionally low price of R150 a month. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal so…

MagSafe was a really neat little reveal during Apple’s last press conference. Sure, it also showed off an entirely new iPhone 12 (and made everyone roll their eyes at the idea of “saving the planet” by removing the charger from the box) so MagSafe fell to the wayside amidst all the hype. Yet one of the big things many took from the MagSafe announcement was the 15W fast charging functionality. Just being able to snap a magnet to the back of your iPhone and watch that battery trickle upwards faster than you’d expect… well, it does make life a whole…

Snacking apps will be our tummy’s saviours in a post lockdown world. Let’s be honest, one of the worst parts about lockdown wasn’t the loneliness, cabin fever or even the fact that you just could never reject a phone call with the excuse that “you were out”. No, the worst thing was the continual snacking on comfort food because the world is ending and you just needed to feel good about something. Well, now that feel good moment has passed and maybe you’re a little annoyed with the extra poundage. There’s nothing wrong with picking up a spot of weight…

Digital Tax is the new buzzword that the government is throwing around today. The South African government loves to meddle in affairs that really just rile everyone up. Last week we reported that parliament, specifically the SABC and Deputy Communications Minister Pinky Kekana, had proposed that South Africans should require a TV license to use Netflix — an idea so absurd it’s been one of the most fire memes of the last few days. Of course, the absurd ideas haven’t stopped there as parliament now suggests that international companies such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and even Facebook are forced…

YouTube’s mobile app can be a touch clunky if you’re anything like us at Stuff. While most of our time on YouTube usually takes place on our laptops or TVs, there are the occasional sleepless nights where you need that distraction of someone talking about film theory or philosophical parallels in Avatar: The Last Airbender (I’m very fun at parties) but getting out of bed is a mission. So you pull up your phone and open the YouTube app and proceed to click on all the wrong links with your gross, fat fingers. Trying to throw it into full-screen results in plenty…
