I completed a Masters Degree just so someone might take my opinions seriously one day. Also writes about video games over at Critical Hit.

It’s October and you know what that means! Microsoft is rolling out one of its biannual Windows 10 updates that should introduce some more significant changes to the operating system. You might be wondering what the big deal about this is when your Windows seems to update every week, usually at the most inconvenient of times. While those minor updates are usually to improve and bolster system security, and occasionally insert a GIF search into the system, the October 2020 update is introducing some major changes to the OS and while we might not have asked for any of the…

Now that Netflix has done away with the free trail that everyone apparently loved so much that creating a new email account every month was worth the effort, the streaming service is looking at ways of making the platform more accessible. While you do have the option of watching a handful of Netflix shows and movies for free, it’s certainly not as robust as a full-fledged free trial. Having said that, the newly announced StreamFest isn’t all that much better as while it does offer Netflix’s entire catalogue for free it’s only for a couple days so participants better start…

Nothing reeks of ostentatious power, glamour and unnecessary wealth quite like owning a Hummer. Driving that absolute military unit through the streets of whatever upper-class suburb you want to show off in is perhaps the ultimate display of excessive money, if you’re able to ignore all those folks shouting about the size of your unmentionables. With that concept in mind, how does one elevate oneself to an even more prestigious level of showboating? Well, you purchase a Hummer EV, the company’s first all-electric “supertruck” and you hope to whatever deity you hold close that you don’t ding it on something because that…

Streaming video games is the next big thing. We’re not talking about watching others play games on Twitch, we’re talking about actually playing a game that’s being streamed to a device you own. Google has been trying to get everyone on board with Stadia, a service that allows you to purchase a game and stream it to your TV while it’s being run on a computer… somewhere else. Stadia isn’t exactly a success but that’s more down to the service model being completely garbage. The actual tech was solid. Fortunately, Microsoft’s new Xbox app on Apple’s App Store isn’t anything…

Remember a few months back when Apple announced its new “affordable” smartwatch, the Apple Watch SE? At the time, it sounded like a fantastic idea. The power, efficiency and usefulness of a traditional Apple Watch but condensed in size sounded like a great move for folks desperate to strap an Apple product to their wrist and show it off to all their friends. Well, it turns out that sometimes our wishes are granted by a monkey’s paw. While the Apple Watch SE is a neat little gadget, it is apparently overheating to a rather frightening extent. Users in South Korea…

One of the unspoken benefits of using online video streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Video or Showmax is that you don’t have to deal with the garbage of applying and owning a damn TV license. The SABC has required TV licenses if you both own a television and want to access any kind of programming. If you’re one of the smart ones that has long ditched conventional programming and adopted Netflix, then you’re probably going to be painfully annoyed to find out that the SABC is proposing that everyone who wants to watch Netflix pay for a TV license. It’s…

In 2020, I doubt anyone expected video calling apps to be the most abundant and necessary resource for society to grapple with. Despite a decade long headstart, Skype lost out to relative newcomer Zoom, Microsoft Teams continued to quietly support its user base and even WhatsApp started expanding the functionality of its video call system… for mobile at least. It seems that Facebook has figured out that while mobile video calls are casual enough for friends and family to catch up, it’s missing out on a huge swathe of the market: Formal business interactions. Hence why the rumour that WhatsApp…

Honestly, if you were to put Apple’s iPhone 12 and 11 next to one another, I wouldn’t judge you for being a little confused. On the outside, they look remarkably similar. To such an extent that it almost feels like Apple’s parodying itself by actually making a phone that’s identical to the last model. Yet appearances can be deceiving and the iPhone 12 is certainly a different beast to its older sibling. So if you’re at all interested in what the difference is, take our hands as we guide you through Apple’s production and figure what exactly separates the iPhone 11…

We’ll be the first to admit that we weren’t all that excited by the prospect of augmented reality popping up on a car’s windscreen. We understand why it could be useful but let’s be real, most people are such terribly impatient drivers that listening to someone offer them helpful tips on how they could improve their driving is most often met with vitriolic frustration and annoyance. Yet if we put aside our pride, augmented reality, the same technology being used to train dogs in sniffing out bombs, in windscreens could be awesome! A UK based company, Envisics, has been developing a…

Wireless chargers are just cool. There’s not much more to it than that, honestly. Sure, they remove the hassle of fishing for your cable after it’s slipped beneath the bed because who needs the terror of fighting off a potential monster that’s luring you into the shadows where no-one dares to tread? So I suppose not dying by the hands of a monster, real or imagined, is the biggest positive to wireless chargers but they have been known to be a touch inefficient. There can be issues with connection and the charging speed may not be all that fast at…
