Just when we thought we might have a chance to get away from WhatsApp’s updated (and generally unwanted) terms and conditions, the instant messaging app has swooped in to remind us once again that it’s still a thing. Despite upsetting plenty of people, everyone’s favourite [citation needed] messaging app wants to remind users that the privacy policy changes will still be happening “in the coming weeks”. From the sounds of things, WhatsApp wants to be more open with users about the terms they’re required to accept; thus, a banner will eventually be shown on the app with the relevant information needed…

The Samsung Galaxy S21 is a neat little device that packs some very cool software improvements over the previous generation of Samsung phones. If you don’t have one and you’re feeling left out, don’t panic just yet. Samsung has confirmed that some Galaxy S21 features have started rolling out to older devices. The company has been using the Android 11 skin One UI 3.1 for the Galaxy S21 but thanks to an operating system update, that coat of paint will be made accessible to a whole range of older Galaxy phones. Multichoice and DStv, the bastion of traditional distribution of the media you crave, are still fighting for relevancy in an increasingly digital space. From the sounds of things, Multichoice CEO Calvo Mawela is very confident the service has what it takes to stand toe-to-toe with the likes of Netflix. Better than that, Mawela states that DStv is about to double its numbers in 2021. For those confused, he’s talking about users and not the amount of re-runs. We know, it was the obvious assumption to make, right? During an interview with CNN Connecting Africa, Mawela made some choice statements about…

Ah, some good old trash television. We’ve all been there: You’ve had a long day, your self-esteem isn’t doing all that hot at the moment and you seriously need to compare yourself to others that are just… so much worse than you. That’s the appeal of shows like Temptation Island, a new show that’s been licensed by Showmax for South Africa. You think Mnet gets to have all the fun with Love Island South Africa? Nope, Showmax wants to make folks aware that they’re equally capable of offering up the heated drama that people so desperately crave in their day-to-day lives.…

Don’t you hate paying for a service that can so easily be ripped away with little to no warning whatsoever? Eskom has become the posterchild for expensive services that only work half as efficiently as promised, so of course it would be raising the price of its service even higher for the 2021/2022 financial year. Those tariffs are jumping by 15% this year, just in case you needed another reason to be annoyed at the utility while being stuck between a rock and a hard place because you still need to pay them. Nersa (National Energy Regulator of South Africa)…

Vivo, a phone brand that we’ve enjoyed in the past year, has had the specs for their latest phone leaked into the wild. According to @DigitalChatStation, pulling information from Chinese social media platform Weibo, the Vivo S9 sounds like a pretty standard mid-range device with a rather exciting chipset. The Vivo S9 will seemingly be the first phone to utilise the new MediaTek Dimensity 1100 chip which, while reportedly comparable to the Snapdragon 865, should make for a much cheaper handset. Let’s delve into what we can (supposedly) expect from the S9, not to be confused with the Samsung Galaxy…

Twitter, apparently with a bee within its bonnet, has started banning a whole load of South African accounts, with a special emphasis on influencers. According to MyBroadband, Twitter users first noticed the trend in bans this past weekend, particularly on 13 February. There’s no word from Twitter as to why they’re banning these accounts but several users have speculated that influencers are being targeted due to violations of the platform’s terms and conditions. “Platform manipulation” is the primary issue people suspect is behind these bans, but that’s just speculation. A relatively viral tweet made the rounds, claiming that users would…

Budget smartphones! The two words that send shivers up Apple’s spine and usually result in great big smiles across Stuff Magazine’s faces. While ZTE has launched a few products in South Africa in the past, perhaps most notably the first 5G indoor router, the brand has been fairly absent in our sunny country for some time now, but that’s about to change in the near future. The company is re-entering South Africa with the launch of the ZTE Blade A3 2020 smartphone. This is obviously a budget device so don’t expect the kind of specs you’ll find in an iPhone 12 but…

Clubhouse, the latest social media platform to tempt Facebook into designing a clone, has announced that it has fixed a major security flaw that potentially exposed users’ unfiltered data to the government. Security analysts discovered a glaring flaw in the app which could potentially result in the Chinese government gaining access to people’s audio data and messages. Now, it’s all very well saying that the Chinese government wouldn’t do such a thing, but let’s be real… it totally would do this kind of thing if no-one knew about it. The flaw came in the form of plaintext, which Slack also…

Zack Snyder's Justice League just got a brand new, overly-saturated trailer We'll be honest with you, we weren't massive fans of 2017's Justice League. It felt hollow and lifeless, never really giving you the fun characters and action you expect from a superhero movie set within the DC Comics pantheon. Thus, when Warner Brothers confirmed that
