Netflix, staple of the couch date and vanquisher of lockdown boredom (or perhaps saboteur of productivity is more accurate), has announced a new feature that will download new movies and shows for you to watch offline automatically. Netflix has you covered, whether you’re connected or not It’s similar to Netflix’s “Smart Downloads” feature (released in 2018), which downloads episodes of your favourite shows so that you can watch them anytime. It made the streaming giant an absolute legend for when loadshedding inevitably struck, and this new feature, called “Downloads For You”, only adds to that. Movies and series will be chosen…

There are few things more desk-flippingly infuriating than poor customer support. You’re already tilted because something you paid good money for isn’t working, so when it turns out the process to get it fixed is just as busted, there’s a good chance the red mist of rage might descend. As is the case with Google Stadia right now. This is exactly what happened to Reddit user lordubuntu, who (like many other players) has been experiencing multiple frustrating bugs in the game Journey to the Savage Planet on Google Stadia. The game would freeze on the title screen when lordubuntu selects…

With everyone doing everything online last year thanks to Covid-19, there was an understandable increase in cyber criminal activity. In particular, cyber security group Kaspersky reported a “boom of DDoS attacks” in 2020. Kaspersky reports that they detected 31% percent fewer of these attacks in fiscal quarter 4 than in fiscal quarter 3, an incredibly steep decline. Kaspersky speculates that this may be due to the rise in cryptocurrency value, and cybercriminals devoting devices infected by their botnets to mining cryptocurrency rather than carrying out DDoS attacks. DDoS? What’s that? Some quick explaining for the confused. DDoS stands for “Distributed…

Last week BBC and ITC announced their shared streaming platform, BritBox, is coming to SA in the latter half of this yea. Neither an official date has been set for the platform’s release, nor has a list of what content will be available to South African subscribers been shown yet. But, while the old adage might go “comparisons are odious”, in this instance they may make for a pretty fair estimate of what we might expect from BritBox while we wait for any official information. What’s in the (Brit)Box? BritBox predominately plays host to “Britain’s best telly” (so the official…

I never owned a Wii-U. None of my friends did either. As I recall, it wasn’t an especially in-demand console when it released in 2012, and I feel that’s somewhat of a shame. Disappointing console or not, it had its fair share of games – good games – that I never sunk my teeth into. Fortunately, Nintendo is giving me a second chance to play some of these games by bringing them to a much more popular console, the Switch. Super Mario 3D World is one such game, and the Switch version comes with some impressive new content to sweeten…

We’re all sick of load shedding, it’s no secret. It’s frustrating, it’s debilitating, it can put a hold on your entire day and swallow up your productivity in an electricity-lacking hole of darkness. Everyone’s looking for ways to dodge the dread of the shed, and it appears Hisense is looking to help themselves and residents in the Western Cape in that regard. The electronics company has announced that it plans to put R20 million towards running its factory in Atlantis, Western Cape, on solar. In a statement reported by My Broadband, Hisense said that they have “already made extensive investments…

School is rather different from what it was a year or two ago. Many classrooms are now online, wholly or at least partially. Face to face classes have been traded in for video conferences, and assignments are handed out and in via cloud storage. Thrown headfirst into it, teachers and students alike surely struggled a bit to adjust at first, and are probably still figuring out how best to make it work. Fortunately, Google is bringing out some brand new additions to its online learning tools to help students and teachers out. Google Meet Google’s video conference platform is getting…

Right now, working remotely is the norm. Thanks to the pandemic, many businesses have chosen to go (and remain) online in the face of the pandemic. Fortunately, there’s a slew of great apps and bits of software that make working online easier and more convenient, even for those of us who are slightly technologically challenged. One such piece of digital gear is Google Drive, which is incredibly useful for storing, sharing, and managing files via cloud storage. A key feature of Drive is the ability to share files. Now, Google has updated Google Drive to make sharing files even more…

Last month SamMobile obtained a Bluetooth SIG certification revealing that Samsung was working on two new laptops: The Galaxy Book Pro, and the Galaxy Book Pro 360. Now they’ve acquired new information confirming some of the laptops’ specs. Both laptops will be available with either 13.5in or 16.5in OLED screens, which rules out the possibility of them being fitted with Samsung’s new 14in OLED displays. Both will also be compatible with the newest version of S Pen, which came out alongside the Galaxy S21. You’ll be able to grab either laptop with an intel i5 or i7 processor, and, because everything…

Just over two weeks ago, Google announced that it was closing the doors of its in-house game development studios for Stadia. This was surprising to most of us, but probably wasn’t nearly as shocking as it was for the dev team, who, Kotaku reports, had been told a week earlier that Stadia vice president and general manager Phil Harris was impressed with the “great progress” they had made since Stadia’s launch. “[Stadia Games and Entertainment] has made great progress building a diverse and talented team and establishing a strong lineup of Stadia exclusive games,” Harris had said in an email Kotaku managed…
