We’re living through a moment in time when technical healthcare innovation is in demand. Now, tech giant Microsoft is bringing AR technology into the operating room using the HoloLens 2. The company has been touring the tech through thirteen countries all over the globe, South Africa included, as part of a 24-hour surgical event. Prof. Stephen Roche, a surgeon from the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital, was one of fifteen surgeons who participated in the “Mixed Reality Surgery” event, leading a surgery using the HoloLens 2 in South Africa and assisting virtually in two more surgeries conducted…

CD Projekt has revealed that it has become the victim of a cyber attack. The Polish video game company behind The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk: 2077 released a statement yesterday describing how an “unidentified actor” had gained access to their internal network and managed to pilfer “certain data” belonging to CD PROJEKT Capital group. In a tweet, alongside their official statement on the matter, the company shared a ransom note left behind by the actor. In the note, the hacker claims to have accessed the source code for The Witcher 3, Gwent, Cyberpunk: 2077, and an unreleased version of The Witcher 3. Additionally, the hackers…

Last month, Eskom presented plans to change its electricity price structure to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa. This included a big change to the electricity utility’s fixed and usage costs. Eskom customers have a monthly fixed connection charge, and a charge for how much electricity they use on top of that. Traditionally, the usage charge has made up the majority of an electricity bill. But Eskom’s new price structure will change that. The company wants to increase the fixed charge, while decreasing the usage charge, and while this would certainly affect everyone’s electricity bills, it’s particularly significant for…

Remember Anthem? EA’s multiplayer looter-shooter that released way back in February 2019, packed with gear to grind for, cosmetics to customise with, and a slew of (potentially game-breaking) bugs? Well, according to Bloomberg, Electronic Arts Inc. will hold a meeting to decide what happens to the title next this week.  In case you don’t know, Anthem had a rough release and ultimately… kind of bombed. It was set to be like Destiny, a multiplayer online shooter where the core gameplay loop was to finish quests, acquire upgrades and new weapons to make yourself more powerful and ultimately do harder quests. Unfortunately, players found the grind…

Microsoft’s “two-factor authentication” app, Microsoft Authenticator, has received a convenient new update. Similar to Apple’s new iCloud extension, Authenticator now has a feature that automatically fills in your login details for apps and websites, and it works across platforms and devices. With this update, you can use Authenticator’s Passwords tab to access all the login information you’ve stored on Microsoft Edge. Then Authenticator will be able to pop up and fill in your login details whenever you visit a site or platform that you’ve saved a password for. It’ll also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers, and…

Gmail’s full of cool features. So full, in fact, that there might be a bunch you’ve never even heard of before. Here’s a handy few that you might want to start using to further optimize your Gmail experience. With some quick tweaks you can: Give yourself some more time to undo sending emails You may know that Gmail gives you a 5 second window to unsend emails. This can be lifesaving, for example, when you type out a message giving your boss a piece of your mind and then hit send instead of delete. But 5 seconds is not a…

I had really high hopes going in to Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood. As I said in my preview, werewolves are just cool, simple as that, and it’s a crying shame that there are so few werewolf-themed video games. I thought Earthblood might be the silver bullet that put an end to the werewolf-game drought we’ve all been suffering through. But it’s just too lackluster on too many fronts to be anything more than a shaggy beat-em-up that’s only really enjoyable if you can switch your brain off. Everything about this game is just… forgettable. There’s nothing of substance. Combat, story,…

Parental controls are a great way to keep your child’s internet browsing safe and clean. Unfortunately, it appears that Apple has gone a little too far in the quest for a dirt-free internet experience. In iOS 14, users with the “limit adult websites” privacy option turned on will be barred from seeing any content with the word “Asian” in the URL. That’s right. With the setting turned on, you’re blocked from searching “Asian” from any browser on your Apple device. Not just the word on its own either. “Asian food”, “Asian politics”, “Asian beaches”, “Asian companies”, all of it is…

Two of Blizzards IPs, dungeon crawler Diablo and hero-shooter Overwatch, had their upcoming installments announced back in 2019, causing fans of both franchises to foam at the mouth with excitement. No release date was given at the time, and still hasn’t been revealed, but we know this much now: they’re not coming out this year. According the The Verge, Activision Blizzard revealed during its most recent earnings call that it doesn’t anticipate either game being a part of it’s financials for 2021. Rather, both are expected to release next year, though no specific date was given. Disappointing as this is, we’re…

In an effort to move towards sustainability, Mini is no longer offering leather as an option for your car’s interior. This is a big move considering that more than half of all their cars sold last year were fitted with leather.  Mini is thinking ahead According to Autocar, Mini’s head of design, Oliver Heilmer, is committed to making vehicles as sustainable and future-friendly as possible. Ending the use of leather is one of a number of steps the British car company has taken to achieve that.
