There are few things nicer to do at the moment than kick back and stream a good series while you social distance, which is why it’s great news that Britbox is launching in South Africa this year. Britbox is a streaming service provided by ITV and BBC Studios that has been around since 2017. The platform offers what it calls an “unrivalled collection” of British TV shows and the best of British box sets. The service also streams live events and even original commissions. It’s like BBC Brit on DStv, but you don’t have to deal with Multi-Choice. On the…

Bigger is always better, so the saying goes. Smartphones have progressively grown bigger in the past few years, for good reason. A bigger screen is better for streaming movies, playing games, even reading articles and eBooks if you’re the brainy type. But this comes at the cost of certain conveniences, which Android 12 plans to fix. For example, a bigger phone is much more cumbersome than a smaller one, particularly when using it with one hand, as we often do. We’re on the move. We’re walking and talking, we’re cooking and reading a recipe, we’re jogging and picking changing our…

CDPR said in a statement that they would not negotiate with the hackers. Now, the data has reportedly been sold. Cyber-security firm Kela tweeted screenshots of a post on a hacking forum called Exploit. Apparently…

South Africa experienced a unique State of the Nation Address the evening of 11 February 2021. As with most events amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was entirely virtual with only a few guests in live attendance. One particularly noteworthy project the president brought up was the development of South Africa’s first post-Apartheid “smart cities”. The president first touched on the conceptualisation a South African smart…

In case you don’t know, WhatsApp is currently working on a feature that lets you use one account across multiple devices at the same time. “Creating truly convincing digital humans is hard.” says Fortnite developer Epic Games. We’re inclined to believe them. Animation of any kind is an impressive skill, and creating life-like 3D animated humans requires an incredible amount of time, effort, and pricey equipment. That’s why Epic has created MetaHuman Creator, a browser-based tool powered by Unreal Engine that you can use to create highly realistic human models, ready and waiting to fulfil all your animating desires. The company says that the software can be used in tandem with modern animation techniques, like motion-capture, to create highly detailed animations relatively quickly for use in…

Hyundai has revealed its new “uncrewed ultimate mobility vehicle”, or UMV for short, and it’s definitely got legs. Literally. The vehicle, which is being developed by Hyundai’s New Horizon studio, is called the Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot. For brevity, it’s called TIGER. A video showcasing the autonomous vehicle, based on its Cradle walking car concept, was released on Hyundai Motor Group’s YouTube channel, to show off what the vehicle does with its limbs. Now, this thing is no AT-AT, but it would probably manage fine on Hoth, because it’s built for rough environments. Including the moon, or other planets.…
