There’s a new Honor X7 in the works, in the shape of the Honor X7d. You’d think that with the company already launching two handsets in the lineup, they’d be ready to go up by a number rather than a consonant, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
The phone has two serious claims to fame. The X7d will feature a simply massive (for any standard phone) battery, plus an oversized megapixel count. It’s also, based on previous pricing in its lineage, likely to be affordable.
X7d. Or a. Or b. Or c.
The freshly announced handset will lob a 120Hz 6.77in LCD display, a Snapdragon 685 chipset, and between 12GB and 16GB of system memory at prospective owners. 12GB models will feature 128GB of storage, while 16GB models get a choice of 128GB or 256GB.
That’s all well within budget mid-range spec, but Honor is wandering a little further beyond its previous entries. The featured battery is a 6,500mAh cell with 35W wired charging — huge for any mainline phone and still a decent upgrade from the previous phones’ 6,000mAh. This is joined by an IP65 rating and a claimed five-star SGS drop rating, giving it some survivability.
The cameras also get some love. The main lens is a 108MP f/1.75 effort, not long ago a flagship-centric feature. The second camera is a mere 2MP depth sensor, with an 8MP camera embedded in the X7d’s display. We’d expect fair performance for what you’re likely to pay. Previous models have hovered in the R5,000 to R6,000 bracket.
Exactly where the Honor X7d lands up remains to be seen. The Chinese company hasn’t made final pricing and availability known yet.
