If you’ve ever wanted more options for laptops that fold in half, you might not have considered Huawei’s MateBook Fold. That might be because the company doesn’t sell them in South Africa. But a) there are ways around that, and b) that could change in the future.
A new model is supposed to launch soon, 5 August to be exact, with the Chinese tech company publishing teasers on Weibo in the meantime.
“Like shimmering water, like sparkling pearls. The all-new #HuaweiMateBook# Fold opens a new chapter in aesthetics. Available in three colors—Radiant Gold, Phantom Black, and Sky White—it interprets extraordinary design with foldable aesthetics,” reads the post.

More often than not, Huawei has delivered good-looking premium devices, and the new MateBook Fold looks like it’ll continue the trend. The hinge and frame both seem to have a glossy finish, while the kickstand seems like it’s trying to do its best marble impression.
Some technical details are also known. The new Kirin X90 Plus CPU will succeed the Kirin X90 in the old models. It is said to deliver a 25% performance increase, although Huawei is keeping detailed specs close to its chest for now.
Elsewhere, the MateBook Fold will feature the same 18in foldable (obviously) LTPO AMOLED display as the last model. It boasts a 3,296 x 2,472px resolution, with an average brightness of 700 nits, and peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits. The biggest change to the display is that it will now support stylus input.
Like Asus’ offering, Huawei’s foldable can be used like you would a non-folding laptop, with the lower half acting as a touchscreen keyboard. More details, including its local price, should be forthcoming closer to, or during, its Chinese launch. It might be too soon to get your hopes up that this will make its way to South Africa, but that won’t stop us from wanting to try it out.
