Why? Well, the same reason basically any tech is recalled in this day and age. Battery issues. Some of the trackers are overheating. That’s a bad thing to have in something that lives next to your skin. So Fitbit has issued a recall. Yes, for all of them still in use.

The page in question is mostly an FAQ about Fitbit’s new recall, but there’s an option headed ‘How do I get my refund‘ down the page that’ll get the ball rolling. You know, if you’re the sort to skip actually useful information. It opens up a new page where users in different regions can begin the refund process. There are a few hoops to jump through, doubtless, but refunds should be processed within six weeks.
The company said in a statement, “Customer safety is always Fitbit’s top priority and out of an abundance of caution, we are voluntarily recalling Fitbit Ionic smartwatches. We received a very limited number of reports – the totals in the U.S. regulator announcement represent less than 0.01% of units sold – of the battery in Fitbit Ionic smartwatches overheating, posing a burn hazard. These incidents are very rare and this recall does not impact other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.”
