South Africa has older versions of the HP OmniBook 3 16, but the company’s latest — packing a Snapdragon main processor — promises twenty hours of battery life on a charge. It’ll also give you enhanced artificial intelligence functions, if you’re into that.
The laptop refresh, currently available from the company’s American storefront, starts in that country at just R10,000 ($600). It’s unlikely, given how much the Ryzen and Intel models cost here, to stay at that price should it make landfall in South Africa. We’d expect the price to double here.
OmniBook 3 16: Because HP said so
Even then, HP’s Snapdragon Omnibook 3 16 still fits in the lower midrange of laptop prices. You’ll likely, if the hardware gets here, want the more expensive version of the notebook. The base version, with a Snapdragon C chipset and 16in display, comes with just 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The pricier model upgrades buyers to 256GB of storage, but keeps the RAM. An even more expensive variant doubles the RAM to 8GB, but pushes the price up to $770 (around R13,000, but it’ll cost more here).
HP in the States has a range of configuration options, but we probably won’t see them here. The company drops specific models in South Africa, and we get what we get. Still, that 16in 300-nit display, 41Wh battery, dual USB-A and -C ports, and that Qualcomm processor will do their best to keep you away from a wall socket for two full workdays.
And if that doesn’t do it for you, HP also has some Omnibook Spark notebooks on the way. This will cost… considerably more.
