Apple tends to be a predictable beast, but this evening’s WWDC 2025 keynote promises to keep us guessing at least a little. Traditionally, the World Wide Developers Conference is all about the company’s software (the clue’s in the name), but Apple occasionally pulls a hardware surprise out of the hat.
If there’s a processor-toting rabbit inside an unsuspected bit of headgear, it’s exceedingly well-hidden. On the cards for this evening is an extensive revamp of the company’s various operating systems, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
Waiting on WWDC 2025
If you’re excited by the look and feel of Apple’s software ecosystem, covering Watch, Mac, iPad, and iPhone, you’re in for a thrilling ride. If you’re less concerned with app icons, widgets, and what long-standing apps look like, it might be worth giving this evening’s keynote a skip. Unless you’re interested in changes to the Apple Vision Pro’s interface, which seems to be acting as the basis for WWDC 2025’s other visual revamps, that is.
Apple is also expected to further detail its push into the crowded and jostling AI space, with the highlight being a new Translate function for its devices. Broader access to the LLM powering Apple Intelligence for developers is another impressive point, while the other changes are more under-the-hood. Much of Apple’s best work happens in that location, but it doesn’t make for compelling viewing unless you’re actively tinkering there (which you’re not supposed to do if you’re a customer — that’s the whole point of Apple’s ecosystem).
If there are any hardware surprises, they seem destined to be minor. Speculation says that a new Mac Pro design is heading to WWDC 2025, along with an Apple HomePod with a display (stop the presses!). A next-generation AirTag is also possible, but these aren’t exactly headliners. Still, if a sneaky iPad or MacBook breaks cover, you can count on us to let you know.
