The Galaxy Fold has a few points against it: they’re considered fragile, they’re prone to breaking in weird and wonderful ways, and you can’t get them wet. Okay, about that last point…
Galaxy Fold IP-oh?
Just what the nature of that IP rating is is clouded in mystery (until, probably, later this week) but it’s not likely to match the Galaxy S21 range’s IP68 protection (which is: dirt, dust and sand, plus water up to 1.5 metres in depth for 30 minutes). There’s no guarantee that the IP rating will include moisture protection at all and, arguably, Fold devices don’t need it. Because who drops a R50,000 smartphone in a toilet.
They do need protection from dirt and grit, however, and if Samsung’s done enough about that particular little hazard, it’ll be a welcome addition to the South Korean company’s more ambitious smartphone lineup.
