Apple’s Apple TV announcement was almost a disappointment, but then it went ahead and brought out the big guns by announcing Apple TV Channels and Apple TV+.
Apple has made a thing of quiet hardware announcements this week. First it was the iPad refresh that turned up unexpectedly, now we’ve also got some info on iMac upgrades.
In what seems to be a daily hardware update before next week’s major services announcement, Apple has revealed upgraded AirPods that include wireless charging and better battery life.
We’re a long way out from Apple’s annual iPhone reveal but that doesn’t mean that folks aren’t still (always) trying to puzzle what’s coming next from the company. The newest talk about town? Apple’s going to be hopping on the triple-camera bandwagon for the iPhone 11. And if it’s true, helped along with an apparent design leak, we’re not really sold on the design. It doesn’t feel like something Apple would do, you know?
A week ahead of Apple’s services-focused announcement event, Apple has launched two new iPads — the satisfyingly small 7.9in iPad mini, and a 10.5in Pad Air.
“It’s show time” seems to suggest that we’re looking at something television-related. Like a brand new video streaming service, perhaps? Certainly it’s more likely than a movie or theatre production announcement, which would be more likely to use the world ‘showtime’ on the announcement. In our completely unscientific assessment of the invitation (above), that is.
Apple is supposed to have an augmented reality headset in development, though the company is being typically close-mouthed about any plans they have in that direction. But folks are on the lookout for signs of Apple’s AR headset, and there is talk that we’re going to see it in 2020.
Apple’s scheduled an event for 25 March, and at it we’re expecting to see the company unveil both a subscription news service, Apple News, and a TV streaming service (name still to be confirmed/leaked).
Rumours of the new subscription services have been dropping like case-free smartphones, along with others that suggest we probably won’t see the highly-anticipated next-gen AirPods or the rumoured new iPad Mini revealed at the March event. Pity.
