Recent leaks have fingered the still-rumoured Motorola Edge 30 Ultra to be the first Andriod smartphone coming to market with Qualcomm’s latest system on a chip (SoC). According to German tech blog TechnikNews, the device going by the internal code name “Rogue”, will ship with the also-still-unconfirmed Snapdragon SoC, the Snapdragon 898. Qualcomm has not confirmed the SoC itself yet, but going from the model numbers of last years chip and the chip the Edge 30 Ultra is supposed to ship with, it seems highly likely. https://twitter.com/NilsAhrDE/status/1457733953926873090 Motorola looks to Edge out rivals Whether or not the new Snapdragon can perform…

Afriforum, a local self-proclaimed civil rights organisation is upset with Netflix and its Black Creatives Empowerment Fund that it’s calling discriminatory. Netflix announced the fund in September and pledged over R6 million. R4.6 million will go towards supporting aspiring black creatives in SA by cancelling higher education debt and offering postgraduate scholarships. The remaining R1.5 million will go to the Independent Black Filmmakers Collective (IBFC), a local network of producers, filmmakers and directors in the film and television industry. Afriforum took great offence with this initiative. The NGO launched a partition in which it called the initiative “blatant racial discrimination”…

Remember when the world learnt of Pegasus? The new spyware going around, that was able to get into just about any device and access pretty much all of the info it contained, without any input needed from the owner and it felt like no one’s info was safe? Yeah, that was only four months ago.  Now the US has placed sanctions on NSO Group, the company behind the spyware, that disallows any US company from selling their technology or services to the Israeli surveillance firm. In case you missed it, The Pegasus Project brought attention to the spyware after it…

The legal battles and constant shuffling of managerial staff at Activision Blizzard are taking a greater toll on the publisher’s output than you might think. It recently announced that some of its upcoming games have been pushed out during its Q3 earnings call. “While we are still planning to deliver a substantial amount of content from Blizzard next year, we are now planning for a later launch for Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV than originally envisaged,” the company announced.  If we unpack that a little, not only does it tell us that both games have had their internal roadmap pushed…

Røde, one of the leading microphone and audio equipment manufacturers in the world, announced a new compact audio interface today, called the AI-Micro. You might find it familiar as it very closely resembles the company’s own SC6-L interface for Apple devices. To start with, at only 40 x 38 x 11mm and 13 grams, it’s a rather tiny little guy so it’ll have no trouble fitting in a handbag, camera bag, mobile recording bag or even your pocket. Røde is…

We aren’t too far off from the rumoured 2022 launch of the first of Intel’s Arc GPUs, codenamed ‘Alchemist’. Intel has been rather reticent since it officially announced the line of GPUs back in August but now a YouTube channel called ‘Moore’s Law Is Dead’ has revealed some images of the actual cards and they look a lot like the renders we’ve seen.  Intel is keeping us waiting  A few things stand out from the images. The 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors might indicate that the new cards won’t be using the new PCI-E Gen 5.0 standard and is congruent…

If only there was a way to know about things before they happen. Or go back in time and, say, invest in Bitcoin when it was $0.08 (R1.23) per coin. We’re sure the few people who bought into $SQUID, the latest memecoin inspired by Squid Game on Netflix, feel the same after the coin lost pretty much all of its value in minutes. Squid Game memecoin dies a meme death To bring you up to speed, a group of unknown individuals with no connection or affiliation to the show or its creators, took it upon themselves to create a new…

Swedish electronics company Teenage Engineering, most well-known for its synthesisers, have branched out a little and made an ITX PC case called computer-1. If you’re a fan of the company’s design language then this should be right up your alley. It’s not as innovative as this breathing PC, but it still looks kinda cool. The case is constructed from thin sheets of powder-coated aluminium but comes in a sort of DYI kit where you’ll need to bend some of the panels yourself. That old “measure twice, cut once” adage applies here, except now it’s “think twice, bend once” as the company…

The National Rifle Association (NRA) in the US is under attack and this time its guns can’t help it. Grief, the new ransomware gang on the block, posted to its leak site claiming to have documents from the group’s databases. While Grief may be relatively new to the scene, it has strong ties to the Russian group Evil Corp. They’ve been around for much longer, since 2009, and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damages. Yesterday, the NRA public affairs managing director, Andrew Arulanandam, issued a statement on Twitter. If we were members of that group we wouldn’t find…
