Apple has revealed the next member of their AirPod family, the AirPods third generation. These new pods have received updates across the board, but not so much that they overtake the AirPod Pros. Apple has redesigned the third generation of AirPods to “bring the music right to your ears”, as opposed to before when the music only came halfway. Despite some rumours, we won’t be seeing silicon tips, those are only for the pros. Apple has also included more touch sensors in the stems for more control. The internal drivers have also been redesigned, although the difference will need to…

There’s been a bit of fuss made about spyware recently. If you don’t know, it’s software that installs itself on your PC or phone and monitors your device usage or even captures your keypresses without you being aware. It doesn’t sound like a good time, right? Unfortunately, there are some people who do not share the reverence of privacy as we do. And if there’s a market for it, there’s probably an app for that market.  It’s for that reason that Google has had to recently remove a host of ads promoting consumer-grade spyware apps on the Play Store. The wizards over at XDA-Developers are at it again. They have combed through the code in the latest Play services update and found mention of Google’s digital car key feature that it first debuted at its I/O event in May this year. A couple of things to note before you get all excited about the prospect of opening your car with your smartphone. Firstly, finding strings of code like this within the update doesn’t mean that these features will definitely make it to a future release. It could just be Google testing to see if anything will break when the…

Early last month, when we reported that Android 12 might see a full release on 4 October — according to XDA-Developers’ editor-in-chief Mishaal Rahman — we didn’t expect Oppo of all companies to take that as a challenge. Rahman was right. Android 12 did indeed launch on Monday the 4th — to Pixel devices first. We also said you’d have to wait for your device manufacturer to integrate Android 12 into their OS. That usually takes some time. Samsung, for example, took around three months to deliver OneUI 3.0 (in December 2020) to devices following the stable release of Android…

Back in 2018, BMW South Africa opted to end production of the popular 3-series sedan and instead started manufacturing their Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the X3, at the Rosslyn plant, just outside Pretoria. At that stage over 1 million 3-series sedans had rolled off the line. Since then the Rosslyn plant has completed over 200,000 X3s, with the models from the 27th of August being the new 2022 model. At a media event earlier this week, we had a chance to drive two of the available models, the xDrive 20d and the M40i. This time around, BMW sought to bring…

The Samsung M5 smart monitor is a touch confusing. At first, we didn’t really see where it sat in the market. At first glance, it looks like tries to be too many things at once but does nothing well enough for anything to be considered a standout feature. It’s only after we spent some time with it, exploring the different features, that could we see how this might be the first step in the direction of a world where PC monitors and TVs are one and the same. Usually, a monitor review, like this one, is focused on the technical…

The day we’ve all been waiting for is here. Windows 11 is finally available. Windows 11 succeeds Windows 10 and what Microsoft called ‘the last Windows you’ll ever need’. Okay, maybe we haven’t all been waiting for it. If you use a Mac you might not even know what a Windows is and why people are making such a big fuss about it.
