Everyone is jumping on the wireless earbud craze right now. Everyone initially laughed at Apple’s Airpods, but they’ve certainly caught on in popularity. Plenty of other tech companies have launched their own brand of wireless earbuds, including Volkano’s Scorpio Series and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds. Microsoft is also getting in on the action, unveiling their own Surface Earbuds back in October of last year. We still don’t have an official release date for them but if the rumours are true, they should be with us pretty soon. A listing for the American Federal Communications Commission for the Surface Earbuds could be…

Towards the end of last week, we reported that Apple is developing an update for the latest model of iPhones that would essentially bring back Touch ID, an unlock feature replaced by far more convenient facial recognition software. Since everyone is wearing a face mask out of safety (and courtesy), iPhones without Touch ID were struggling to unlock — given the circumstances. Now, it seems that Uber is working on similar tech, except this time it’s to make sure masks are being worn. It’s news like this that makes us think maybe the whole coronavirus pandemic will be around longer…

If you’re one of the people that has unfortunately been plagued by rain’s spotty internet connections in the past two weeks, you’re certainly not alone. Myself, along with plenty of others, have experienced intermittent outages in our internet connections, so I reached out to rain to figure out what’s going on. The answer, as I’m sure you can expect, is due to massive surges in user activity during the lockdown. With everyone stuck inside their homes, constantly guzzling up hour upon hour of Netflix, most service providers have been struggling to keep up with the demand given the country’s limited…

It’s not exactly the most elegant workaround but while everyone is walking with half their head covered, facial recognition software just isn’t cutting it these days. You know what works even when you’re protecting yourself from a virus? That’s right, a pin code! Look, we know there are more important things to worry about right now but if we’re allowed to just get on our soapbox and moan just a little bit, the inability to unlock an iPhone using facial recognition software while wearing a face mask suuuuuuuuuuucks. It’s just such a little inconvenience made all the more annoying by how small of…

Revealed in a live stream creation of the game’s first poster by artist BossLogic, we still know very little about what we can expect from the game outside of the setting which, while pretty cool, doesn’t strike us as very “Assassin’s Creedy”. Like, Vikings are known to be barbarians, not lithe killers. Still, there’s always an opportunity to turn that stereotype around. With Ubisoft slowing down production on their incredibly successful and popular Assassin’s Creed franchise, what we’ve come to expect from the series has changed in the last few years. With AC: Origins and Odyssey shifting the series into…

Amid reports that DStv has sliced it’s subscription prices for other African countries, South Africans are clearly very annoyed that they haven’t been included in the slashes. With hundreds of people battling to make ends meet, anger towards the admittedly expensive service is seemingly spreading in the thousands. Despite all the goodwill it has tried to offer up in the form of free channels for lower-tier subscribers, DStv is clearly still everyone’s favourite company to hate on. Following the service provider slashing prices in other African countries towards the end of last year, people have been up in arms that South…

While the ability to host massive meetings using Google Meet used to be a feature only paying G Suite members could access, apparently people would rather use a free version of basically the same app. Who would have thought, right? Consumers are just soooooo difficult to predict! So you might not know this but Google actually has its own video chat service. Weird, right? Given how many of Google’s apps we use every day, you’d think you’d have used it by now. The thing is that unlike many other video chat services, Google Meet was locked behind a paywall. G Suit,…

WhatsApp has reported that “highly forwarded” messages are being shared around 70% less than before the current limit was put in place. This is obviously great for curbing the spread of fake news regarding the pandemic but also good to know that you’ll be sent fewer essays about how flashing your headlights at another driver at night will trigger a gang initiation from your out-of-touch Aunt. Back in the before times, before we were all very aware of what it feels like to live the life of a hermit unable to leave their abode, WhatsApp announced that they would be…

Emphasis on the “apparently”. Several users have logged complaints on an official Samsung forum detailing how the impressive (and large) camera on the Galaxy S20 Ultra has shattered despite there being no circumstances that would prompt it to do so. If these reports turn out to be valid, well that’s certainly not a great look for Samsung’s most powerful phone yet. The Samsung Galaxy S20 is a pretty monstrous device, both in terms of what it can do and by way of its actual size. There’s a lot of cool tech stuff into its shell, particularly in terms of its…
