It feels fair to say that Samsung set the bar high with last year’s Galaxy S20 devices. They’re some of our favourite smartphones from 2020 and easily the best thing Samsung has done for years. With such a high standard already set, it’s not difficult to see the kind of pressure riding on the S21 range. Yet somehow, Samsung has managed to improve on excellence even further, even if said improvements aren’t all that substantial. Thus, while we fawned over the S21 Ultra 5G, we also wanted to pay some dues to the S21+ 5G. It’s not as flashy and…

Have you ever been watching something on Netflix on your Android device and thought, “What did they say?”. While it is nice to have the streaming service run on any compatible Android machine, the audio quality can be a bit hit-or-miss at the best of times. To address this, Netflix has rolled out an update to improve the audio quality of the app on Android devices. The app will now be able to stream audio in xHE-AAC (Extended HE-AAC with MPEG-D DRC), which sounds like the name of one of Elon Musk’s kids. Don’t worry about all those cobbled together…

Resident Evil will forever be one of Stuff’s favourite franchises. From its overly campy roots in the original game back in the 90’s to the genuine horror of the seventh entry in 2017, we doubt we’ll ever get bored with it. Especially after seeing the first proper gameplay trailer for the eighth game in the mainline series: Resident Evil: Village. While it was revealed back in 2020 during a PlayStation 5 hype trailer, Capcom has been very quiet regarding the actual content of the game. That all changed last night. During the 30 minute showcase, we got a substantial slice of Resident Evil:…

Is Cyberpunk 2077 really all that bad? No, says Nick Cowen who defends it in the long gaze of history. Yes, says Brad Lang, who breaks out his chainsaw. Type the phrase “Cyberpunk 2077” into a search engine and it’s likely your monitor will scream back at you. Since its release in December last year, CD Projekt Red’s first-person RPG has been kicked up and down the street for everything from (amongst other things) being more bug-ridden than a city suffering from a lice outbreak. Yet, while I can see that many of the barbs aimed at both the game…

Bank cards a valuable commodity to keep on your person but that also makes them big targets for theft. Also, easily lost commodities. You know that Fortnite is still one of the most popular games in the world. Which is why it makes sense that Epic Games is going all-in on the esports scene. The developer/publisher has announced that it’s pledging a $20 million prize pool for Fortnite esports scene in 2021. Last year the total prize pool sat at around $17 million while in 2019 the Fortnite World Cup offering winnings of $30 million. Hills and valleys, we suppose. It’s not that Fortnite didn’t have a massive competitive scene before (as illustrated by the cash thrown at it in previous years) but from the sounds of…

If you’ve lived on the internet long enough, you’re no doubt familiar with the “Objection!” meme. It comes from an excellent series of puzzle games in the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series which features some truly excellent court room debates. So of course, someone created a bot that can be posted into any reddit thread and have it turn the entire argument into a cutscene from Ace Attorney. The music quickens, the players in our drama begin to sweat and gasp at the retorts and everything is just so over the top. In the Ace Attorney series, confrontations like this…

Fortnite, still one of the biggest and hottest crazes on the internet, is uniting with one of the world’s other great passions through a new set of skins. Or rather, it’s Man Uniting. Epic Games has announced a partnership with some of the world’s biggest football clubs that will see plenty of iconic uniforms feature in Fortnite as purchasable skins. Very clever, Epic Games. Join two fandoms that simply adore spending money on pointless collectibles and memorabilia. How could this not be profitable? The “Kickoff Set” of skins will allow players to swap and switch between 23 different kits from teams…

Since Huawei was kicked off Google’s Play Store (pour one out for American politics, friends) it’s opted to set up its own app store. Known as the App Gallery, it’s a fairly alright solution for users wanting to download apps onto their Huawei devices who might struggle looking up things like APK files. While it certainly doesn’t have everything, it offers solutions in the form of links to reputable sites that might house the apps you’re looking for. It’s not perfect, but it certainly works. So, what exactly were South Africa’s most popular apps downloaded through the Huawei App Gallery?…
