Roughly a year ago, we were staring at the launch of the Huawei P40, the companies biggest and most powerful phone at the time. But in 2021, the P40 series of phones is so last year. The next Huawei flagship smartphone, the P50, should be right around the corner if the company sticks to its usual announcement schedule and while we haven’t had any confirmation as to how it’ll function or what will be included under the hood, a few leaks have begun to spring that indicate what we can expect from Huawei.
Images of the Huawei P50 Pro leaked to Twitter last night, as so many secret announcements do these days. The images come courtesy of Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks on Twitter) who shared the image of the phone’s back which seemingly houses two of the most massive camera sensors we’ve seen on a phone in some time. While we don’t know the actual specs of those sensors, going by size alone they should be able to produce some incredible photos.
And here comes your very first look at the #HuaweiP50Pro!

The “P” in P50 stands for “Photograph”… maybe
Hemmerstoffer did share a few more details about the phone, including that it will feature a 6.6-inch display, a punch-hole in the top centre of the screen for a selfie camera and will clock in at roughly 159 x 73 x 8.6mm which is just a smidge bigger than the P40 Pro. It should also feature a glass backplate and metal edging because you weren’t paranoid enough about dropping your super-expensive smartphone.
It’s worth noting that while Hemmerstoffer is often considered to be a reliable source when it comes to device leaks, this could very well turn out to be fake. Designs for smartphones are often sketched up months in advance and while it certainly looks like a feasible new addition to Huawei’s smartphone line up, the final design may have been adjusted in recent months.
We still have no idea when Huawei will be announcing the P50 range of devices but has to imagine that it’ll be soon. The P40 was announced towards the end of March last year, so it’s possible that we could be watching an announcement livestream fairly soon.
