Right on schedule, Apple has announced the date for its annual iPhone keynote presentation. If your guess was ‘early September’, then you were well served by rumour and the company’s somewhat predictable behaviour since… forever.
There’s little that can be gleaned from the company’s invitation, which conveys all the pertinent information right up front. Avid Apple watchers can tune into the livestream from the Steve Jobs Theater on 9 September. Local time has the event kicking off at 13h00, but here in South Africa, you’ll have to make space at 19h00.
Awe, Apple
As usual, the American smartphone maker is playing its cards close. Also as usual, there are tons of rumours floating about what viewers can expect from the new iPhone 17 range. The major surprise, if that’s what you can call something folks appear to know about, is thought to be the launch of a new 6.6in iPhone Air. It’ll drop some of the camera tech from the phone, but also slim it down to better match the moniker.
Whether that’s enough to be awe-inspiring remains to be seen. Standard Apple iPhones are supposed to have a 48MP camera upgrade in the works, alongside (possibly probably) the company’s new A19 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and a 120Hz 6.6in ProMotion OLED display.
Other hardware, like new Watch models and a successor to the Vision Pro, is also expected to be in attendance. Hopefully, there are enough physical changes inbound so we don’t have to listen to Tim Cook rant about how the iPhone’s software has changed in the past twelve months.
