Remember when Netflix got really into mobile gaming? You might’ve forgotten, given the company’s recent foibles in the space. We also remember the streamer upping our prices, supposedly to continue providing excellent service, which we imagined would include access to its decent library of games. Apparently not, considering Netflix is killing off a bunch of its best mobile titles.
R.I.P. Zagreus
Perhaps the most devastating of the lot is Supergiant Games’ Hades. Netflix has done the unthinkable — killing off the immortal son of Hades without so much as a proper goodbye. It, and roughly twenty other titles, including all three Monument Valley games, are all headed for the guillotine this July.
Coupled with the fact that Netflix’s new additions to the mobile gaming library have been rather scarce in recent months, we’re beginning to wonder if the streaming giant is starting to regret its decision to enter the space so hastily. As if the shuttering of its own AAA studio in October last year wasn’t enough of a hint.

You don’t have much time to take advantage of these titles while they’re still available. Most of the 20-or-so titles headed for the bin are leaving on 14 July, while the biggest hitter — Hades — will be banished to eternal damnation on 1 July. For whatever reason, Carmen Sandiego doesn’t list a departure date.
In terms of Hades‘ leaving the platform, this might actually be a good thing. When Netflix first brought the title to its platform, it was limited to iOS devices only, leaving Android owners out in the cold. Without Netflix hovering over it, we may finally see Supergiant bring the game to more mobile devices. For a price, of course.
