Owning a Hisense TV will finally pay off. Hisense has announced SportsCast Africa, a new free-to-air sports channel that broadcasts football, rugby, and more 24/7. Unlike DStv, it won’t require the sacrifice of your first-born to afford it. And, unfortunately, unlike DStv, you’re at the mercy of the SportsCast operators to get your fix.
Viva la VIDAA
SportsCast Africa delivers round the clock sport, every day. Its schedule covers African and international football, motorsport, basketball, rugby, tennis and multi-sport action, built around popular daily shows: Football Daily, Soccer Highlights and SportsWrap for football fans, Pole Position for motorsport, Slam Dunk for basketball and Cross Court for tennis.”
Regardless of whether or not these channels scratch that itch for you, there’s no arguing with something free. Hisense reckons that there’s no subscription, download, or sign-up required, though an internet connection is seemingly necessary. Just head on over to channel 5208 on your VIDAA-enabled Hisense smart TV, and voila.

The channel is run by telecommunications and media company Broadsmart, based in Joburg. “Our promise is simple: great sport, whenever and wherever you want it, free and with nothing to install,” said Yokow Quansah, managing director of Broadsmart. “This is a meaningful step in building a genuinely free sports service for African viewers.”
The launch of SportsCast Africa is somewhat of a celebration for Hisense, which has spent thirty years operating in South Africa. The company views the channel as a way of giving back to the people. “It means the
people who have supported us can enjoy the sport they love without paying extra for it,” said Luna Nortje, deputy general manager, Hisense South Africa.
