It wasn’t too long ago that Apple announced its new M2 processor, as well as the first machines to run it. And now, you can order one for yourself. Pre-orders for the hardware have just opened up. If you’re keen, you’ll find yourself paying at least R25,000 for a new Pro.
At least, that’s the case if you order from the local iStore. But we hope you’re not too excited about those new shades. At present, there are only the boring old Space Grey and Silver models on offer.
The M2 is open for business
This means that those two new hues are out of reach. At least for the moment. But you do get your choice of a 256GB or 512GB SSD for your shiny new 13in MacBook Pro. Plus the new M2 chip, which is at least a little faster than its M1 predecessor.
The reduced number of options means that there are only really two price points. It’s R25,000 for the 256GB M2 MacBook Pro 13in, and R29,000 for the 512GB storage option. But, since you probably bought an M1 MacBook Pro recently, the iStore is also looking to get you to trade in.
The store is offering up to R10,000 for a 2018 MacBook Pro 13in, scaling up to R15,000 if you hand over your 2020 M1 MacBook Pro for trade in. Other models — the 2019 and 2020 Intel-powered MacBook Pro 13 units — will fetch up to R11,200 and R11,800 respectively. Unless you’ve been mistreating your poor machine, in which case you can expect less of a discount. Still… it’s something.
As to when you can have your new 13in M2 MacBook Pro… Apple distributor Core hasn’t said yet. But that’s just like them, milking the news cycle for all they can get. We’ll keep you posted.
