Clubhouse adds ‘Music Mode’ to optimise online performances

Clubhouse (and its myriad lookalikes) is the place to be right now, with audio-based social media platforms having set the world on fire for some time now. Naturally, an audio-based platform lends itself to certain modes of entertainment, in this instance, music. Clubhouse recognises this, and so is adding a ‘Music Mode’ to let online musicians take their performances to the next level.

“Calling all musicians! Today we’re introducing Music Mode, a new setting that helps you sound your best when performing on Clubhouse,” reads an official announcement. The announcement explains that Music Mode optimises a room to broadcast music with “high quality and great stereo sound”, both for performances from musicians and for just streaming music with your mates.

Further, musicians will be able to stream directly out of their studio equipment, like external microphones, mixing boards and USB audio interfaces. Anyone who’s compared raw studio equipment audio and audio recorded through your phone’s microphone knows how much of a difference there is there.

To activate Music Mode, while you’ve got the stage in a room hit the three-dot menu button. Scroll over to “Audio Quality”, then hit the “Music” option, which sits just above “High” to give you an indication of exactly how HQ the new option is.

If you’re in the audience, you don’t have to do anything. Just sit back and enjoy the upgraded audio via your headphones, a speaker or your device’s onboard speakers.

Clubhouse doesn’t get into the nitty-gritty audiophilic details of how this all works, but that’s fine. We’re just happy to have it. Music Mode is rolling out first for iOS, with Android as a “fast follow”.
