Samsung’s expanding S Pen support won’t stop with the Galaxy S21 Ultra

Samsung confirmed many of the things we thought we knew about its newest series of smartphones at last night’s event. One of those things was the existence of an S Pen for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, allowing people who like the Note’s scribbling to do the same on something that isn’t a Note. It’ll launch with the handset, but it’ll cost you R1,000 extra to get one for your (already pricey) smartphone.

But if you’re not in the market for a wildly-expensive new smartphone, you don’t have to give your wallet a coronary in order to get a Samsung stylus of your very own. All that’s needed is a little patience, as the South Korean company aims to bring its stylus to other smartphones. The brand confirmed as much to tech website SamMobile.

S Pens for everybody!

S PenSamsung told the publication that “We are committed to innovating new mobile experiences that flow seamlessly and continuously to make our consumers’ lives easier and better. We’ve made the bold decision to expand the S Pen experience to Galaxy S21 Ultra, and plan to expand the S Pen experience across additional device categories in the future.”

Which certainly sounds like Samsung has its sights set on other smartphones, though it hasn’t explained which handsets might crack the nod next. Last year rumour claimed that the Galaxy Fold 3 would also have access to the company’s S Pen and we’ve seen nothing that might indicate this has changed. But the Fold 3 is set to be almost prohibitively expensive (we’re guessing, but we are also right).

Hopefully Samsung’s peripheral makes its way to more affordable models in future as well. The S Pen is already out there, it’s mostly a case of developing cases that fit the phones in question. And tweaking the display a little, of course.
