Samsung promises us ‘everyday epic’ at its 14 January Unpacked event

A portion of the leaked promotional image.

Samsung Unpacked 2021Samsung’s made its first Unpacked event of 2021 official and, like most of last year, it’s set to be a digital one. The first Unpacked of 2021 takes place on 14 January, in line with previous reports and rumours, and should see Samsung revealing what it has got for us for the first half of the year.

Which has a little something to do with “the Everyday Epic”, according to the event’s tag-line. This suggests that the S21 lineup is set to be a little more affordable — or maybe we’re just daydreaming here. It certainly suggests that Samsung wants its devices to be used every day by everybody. Hoping for a price drop may be a bridge too far.

What’s already been Unpacked

Expect to see several editions of the Samsung Galaxy S21, with the base model arriving alongside the S21 Plus and the S21 Ultra. We’ve already taken a rather good look at each device, in their various new hues. We’re not expecting many surprises on the design front, and we’re also not going to be surprised if the handsets arrive with support for the previously Note-exclusive S Pen.

This year’s camera tech is supposed to consist of dual 12MP sensors, plus a 64MP lens, for the S21 and the S21 Plus. The S21 Ultra will probably include five rear sensors — dual 12MP efforts, a revamped 108MP offering and then two different telephoto options. The company’s also done something about that camera bump this year. How that alters the phone’s thermal profile is something we’re mighty keen on seeing in person.

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event kicks off on 14 January 2021, at 10:00 EST. Here at home, that works out to 17:00 on the same day. As usual, we’ll be keeping tabs on what the South Korean tech giant has to say. Follow along here on the Stuff website, on our Twitter account (if you like your immediacy), or online at Samsung’s stream. Either way, we’ll be off to a quick start this year.
