Fitness tech has developed in leaps and bounds since the invention of the smartwatch. It’s a fashionable accessory (most of the time) that keeps track of your vitals in real-time. If Doctor House had access to this level of health tracking, most of the episodes would have been much shorter. This is where the newly-announced Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro really makes its mark.

Every time you dust off the treadmill and get yourself into some gym pants, the Watch GT 2 Pro gets to work, ready to keep track of all of your health stats and vitals while you run. It’s hardware and software tweaks work through the data and make suggestions on how to more actively rain better next time. If you want to take your running to the next level, but don’t know where to start, the watch will offer over 10 different scientifically-designed, professional running courses to improve your run.

If you find yourself sitting still for too long — don’t worry, it happens to the best of us — the Watch GT 2 Pro will send you a discreet reminder as a vibration prompting you to move more. Whatever your preferred practice, the Watch comes with more than 100 different workout modes pre-loaded, designed to help you monitor your progress and improve different training skills. These include swimming, cycling, climbing or yoga mode and now even features skiing mode, golf mode and driving range mode.

    Become a fitness Pro

To become a real Pro, you’ll need to know a little more about your health. This is far more than just heart rate of step tracking — with the GT 2 Pro you get access to stats on stress levels, sleep quality and blood oxygen level too. The Watch GT 2 Pro will help you monitor all of these vitals with exacting precision and will notify you if your heart rate becomes too high or too low. It’ll guide you through short breathing exercises if you’re getting tired.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro works to make every sport experience insightful and intensive with its 100 sports modes. There are two new additions: skiing and golf. These have been added to Huawei’s already-robust arsenal of built-in modes. Within these 19 professional workout modes, you’ll find 12 types of outdoor sports (skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, golf, running, walking, mountaineering, hiking, trail running, cycling, swimming in open water, triathlon) and 7 types of indoor sports (walking, running, cycling, swimming indoors, free training, elliptical machine, rowing machine). The bottom line? If you can do it, the Watch GT 2 Pro can track it.

    Listen to your heart

Based on the previous generation, the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro supports the updated TruSeen™ 4.0+ heart rate monitoring technology developed to accurately monitor the heart rate using innovative light path tech. Combine this with AI smart heart rate algorithms, and tracking is far more accurate and functions faster than before.

It can track your heart rate in real-time 24 hours a day, as well as check your sleep quality to improve your mental state and energy levels throughout the day. For the first time, Huawei has implemented a discrete non-visible light monitoring method that is not intrusive yet convenient. In addition, the TruSeen™ 4.0+ supports real-time heart rate monitoring while swimming, as well as day-to-day heart rate reminders if your heart rate is too high or too low.

One of the standout features in the GT 2 Pro is its ability to measure blood oxygen saturation using the SpO2 sensor. This is the percentage of oxygen-saturated haemoglobin relative to the total haemoglobin in the blood — it represents the concentration of oxygen in your blood which is an important physiological indicator for how your respiratory system is functioning. If blood oxygen saturation is below 90%, it could be considered as hypoxaemia (abnormally low levels of oxygen in the blood).

With this monitoring function on hand, you can climb with more confidence. While climbing to new heights, the SpO2 sensor will regularly check your blood oxygen to make sure your body is functioning optimally.

    Get moving

As smartwatches and fitness trackers develop over time, more and more are offering a wide variety of features. It’s clear that Huawei developed a wearable that features some of the most robust fitness and health tracking features available.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro can detect six different workouts automatically. That means you don’t need to activate sports tracking manually, and the watch will pick up what you’re doing and start keeping track. This works for outdoor running, outdoor walking, indoor walking, indoor running, elliptical and rower. When you start a workout, the watch can automatically detect it and the user only needs to confirm the workout type and start with no additional settings. Easy.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is available from 9 November at an RRP of R6,999 from the following stores: Huawei online store, Vodacom, Sportsmans Warehouse, Takealot and Total Sports.
