When gaming publisher and developer Valve first announced the release date of their SteamOS operating system, they pointed out that users will have to know their Linux in order to get everything working the way that it should. An updated version of the operating system has since become available that adds some features that were particularly difficult to get working the first time around, including the ability to get SteamOS into a dual-boot configuration.
According to the update “Dual-boot and custom partitioning are now possible from the “Expert Install” option”, which still means that you’ll have to have your ducks in a row when attempting to use it but at least the option is there. The updated OS is the result of work from both Valve and the gaming community who have been experimenting with Steam’s new operating system.
There is still a caveat for users however. The update is very fresh and potential installers should “PLEASE note there has been very little testing on this, especially any kind of dual-boot setup. So don’t install it on any machine you are not prepared to lose.” Like any beta, things can go horribly wrong and then you need to hose down the wall and ceiling again.
