OnePlus has come into the spotlight recently as it was reported by AnandTech that the company was reducing the performance of certain, prominent apps. Immediately, Apple’s “batterygate” comes to mind, which turned out to be kinda expensive. Not really, for a trillion dollar company, but it wasn’t nothing. Did Oneplus miss that one? What’s in it for OnePlus? Initial findings showed that the Chrome browser in particular saw its performance drastically reduced when running performance benchmark tools. Following some pretty in-depth searching, AnandTech was able to uncover a OnePlus service that runs in the background. This service notes when a…

Yesterday, Valve announced that they had a new location and dates for Dota 2’s The International 10. The event will now take place in Bucharest, Romania, in October this year. This is after Sweden, its original location, would not accept esports into its sports federation. Sweden’s decision meant that the country would not classify The International 10 as an elite sporting event and thus players, coaches, analysts and desk hosts would be denied entry into the country due to COVID-19 restrictions. Dota 2 meet Bucharest, Bucharest meet Dota 2 But, luckily, Valve has found a new home for Dota 2’s (and…

If you’re a motor vehicle manufacturer, like Peugeot, then one of the things on your bucket list is to be responsible for getting your team’s name on the Le Mans trophy (we assume). The 24-hour endurance race demands the absolute best in every regard from speed, endurance, aerodynamics and fuel efficiency from a car and this time Peugeot hopes to achieve a win with their new hybrid – the 9X8. Peugeot is hungry for the W It last achieved a win in 2009 with its 908 Prototype, beating German rivals Audi who was poised to win its sixth straight race.…
Audacity, an open-source audio editing tool, was recently bought by Muse Group. It also owns Ultimate Guitar, a community-driven forum for sharing guitar tabs of popular songs and MuseScore, an open-source app for creating sheet music. The acquisition itself was not the issue. The updates to its privacy policy, however, caused a bit of a stir online. The wording of the changes makes it seem like Muse Group wants to join the data collection club. Since we use Audacity quite a bit, we’re also scratching our heads at this. The gall, the Audacity The privacy policy was updated just after the acquisition…
In case you missed it, the billionaires are at it again. Earlier this year, Jeff Bezos announced that he will be flying up to the edge of the atmosphere because, well, he can. So we once again have a valid reason for bringing this deepfake video of him and Elon Musk facing off as Star Trek characters. Shortly after that, and not to be outdone by the fact that he doesn’t have a cool deepfake video, Richard Branson (70) quickly announced that he was going first because he can too… but sooner. We’re not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that, you…
CD Projekt Red has given their AR RPG game, The Witcher: Monster Slayer, a release date in an announcement last last week. From 21 July, the game will be free on both iOS and Android. If you’re extra eager (and on Android) you can pre-register now on Google’s Play Store to get instant access to the game when it goes live and a starting sword that will give you extra XP on each kill. Set before the time of witchers, Monster Slayer will see players roam around the lands (the real ones) and fight the monsters (the fantasy ones) that run rampant. We wonder…
In one of the most brazen displays of irony we’ve seen this year, a hacker or group of hackers took it upon themselves to disrupt the Sundays of Apex Legend players everywhere with the hope that Titanfall gets some love too. When you hack because they hack… Reports from all over social media flooded in as Apex players were met with an in-game message that directed players to an external and very unofficial ‘save Titanfall’ webpage. After which, they could no longer queue for games. This went on for a few hours across pretty much every platform. Luckily, it didn’t take the Respawn…
In their promotional strategy for their much-anticipated sequel, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Techland has opted to go a similar route that Cyberpunk 2077 went with their episodic show Dying 2 Know. The show features gameplay development, behind-the-scenes sneak peaks, interviews with some of the developers and sometimes, a new trailer. Following the success Episode 1 received, Episode 2 looks to capitalise on that, this time with a focus on the monsters and zombies you’ll be up against. One of the highlights was a new type of enemy, affectionately call Sleeping Beauties and presumably inspired by the witch from Left 4 Dead. Dying Light…
Just when we thought we had hit a plateau when it comes to different ways to cool your PC, a chap named Matt over at DIY Perks on YouTube has an ingenious new solution. PC cooling hasn’t come as far as the rest of the industry over the years. We’ve seen fans, water cooling and whatever this is, before. But we could be adding a third (we don’t count that copper foam thing) method to the list. Last year March, DIY Perks uploaded a video of the successful proof-of-concept of his modern bellows system. His system uses magnet trickery and water to…
