It’s everybody’s dream to turn a hobby they love into a satisfying and, more importantly, paying profession. That becomes a little more difficult when your hobby is gaming. RGB Gaming is a local esports organisation working to make that happen at South Africa’s more forward-thinking schools, and now it’s got Hisense to back it all up.

The two announced a partnership today, with the sole purpose of expanding the esports mission across South Africa. Hisense will handle the tech, and RGB Gaming will do what it does best: organise gaming events around the country, and train up the young’uns so they’re better able to compete at a high level. It’s already infiltrated several schools and universities nationwide.
Hisense isn’t just handing out gaming PCs willy-nilly. It’ll expand RGB’s mission by supplying displays for the organisation’s training environments and events, “to ensure that performance matches ambition, pixel for pixel.” Those include the company’s ULED Mini LED and QLED TVs (featuring 144/165Hz refresh rates). It’s also offering up the PX3 Pro, a laser TV, and the C2 Laser mini projector. We’re fairly confident the kids would prefer something like LG’s 480Hz gaming monitors, but maybe they know not to look a gift-Hisense in the free display.
“Gaming culture and its competitive appeal is a rapidly growing industry in South Africa,” said Luna Nortje, deputy GM at Hisense SA. “We are honoured to be working alongside RGB Gaming to ensure that competitive gamers in SA have access to high-performance displays that are capable of meeting the demands of next-gen consoles and high-speed gameplay.”
You’ll get a chance to see what RGB Gaming (and Hisense’s gaming tech) is all about for yourself at Comic Con Africa later this month, where it will host Minecraft, Rocket League, Marvel Rivals, and Fortnite tournaments. The Joburg-based Con opens its doors on Thursday, 28 August and runs until Sunday, 31 August.
