Big news for Comic Con Africa, as this year’s edition has been brought forward by a month. Organisers of the event say it’s because of an upcoming international event that has yet to be announced. The unnamed event, along with extensive renovations to the Joburg Expo Centre, mean this year’s con will be held in August instead of the usual September timeslot.
Comic Con Africa 2025 is happening sooner
This international event (any guesses?) will necessitate renovations that will take considerable time, leaving the Comic Con Africa organisers with no choice but to bring the con forward by a month, now from 28 to 31 August.
“Comic Con’s incredible fans are the reason behind everything we do. We offer our sincerest apologies to them should this date change be an inconvenience,” said Comic Con Africa’s show director Carla Massaman.
Fans traveling from outside the city may have planned their attendance months in advance, so this early announcement at least gives them enough time to adjust those plans. Comic Con Africa maintains that the event schedule will go on unchanged, and fans can expect the same lineup of pop culture content they’ve been promised.
Massaman continued, saying, “Whilst we are disappointed that we must change the dates of our 2025 festival, the Johannesburg Expo Centre is the perfect home for Comic Con Africa and so changing the venue was not an option.”
The organisers seem optimistic that the venue upgrades will enhance future editions of Comic Con Africa, making for an even better experience for fans in the years to come. Having covered previous editions of the festival, we’re eager to see how the renovations will improve the already-grand experience.
If you’ve already secured your tickets, we’re happy to report that they will roll over to the new dates. If you haven’t yet, you can do so here.
