If you’ve been looking for something new in the realm of TV tech, Samsung’s new Micro RGB panels could be just what you’re after. The South Korean company has debuted its first 115in premium television using the proprietary technology, calling it “a new benchmark for color accuracy, contrast and immersive viewing in the ultra-premium TV segment.”
The last few words in that quote above heavily suggest that this TV won’t be cheap. That’s fairly obvious, since a 115in screen takes a fair chunk of delivering, with installation chewing up even more of your capital. The bonus of new TV technology is also bound to sting buyers in the bottom line.
Focusing on Micro RGB
Micro RGB, as the name suggests, allows Samsung to arrange tiny — smaller than 100µm — red, green, and blue LEDs in an “ultra-fine pattern” behind the panel. According to the company, “the architecture enables precision control over each red, green and blue RGB LED.”
The tech, paired with Samsung’s Micro RGB AI engine, is claimed to boost duller colours in whatever viewers are watching, “[analysing] each frame in real time and automatically [optimising] color output for a more lifelike and immersive picture.”

Other features of the new range are more conventional. Samsung’s Glare Free tech tamps down reflections on the panel, while a new lighting arrangement allows for a skinnier panel thickness. Samsung Vision AI and Bixby assistant provide the smarter functions we’d expect from a high-end TV from the brand. The whole unit is powered by Samsung’s Tizen OS, with at least seven years of software updates coming to the range.
And it will be a range. The first of Samsung’s Micro RGB sets will be sold in South Korea in the 115in form factor before launching in the United States. After that, we can expect global availability, “featuring a variety of sizes to meet customer needs.” So… some time next year, then, Samsung?
