Google’s got a lot more going for it than Chrome, Search and Gmail these days, such as a range of platforms built for entertainment. For example, the Arts & Culture app. As you might expect, the app lets you browse fine arts from a number of museums around the world (over 2000 total).
In 2018, the Arts & Culture app got an update that rolled out a new feature that let users find their lookalikes in fine works of art through a selfie. Now that feature is being expanded to include pets.
Google loves your pets as much as you do
The new function comes by way of a “Pet Portrait” mode. Using a machine-learning algorithm (which is one of Google’s fortes at this point), Pet Portraits will scour through works provided by Google’s partnered art institutions to find a piece that matches up with a picture of your fluffy friend.
This isn’t limited to common pets either. Furry, scaly and feathered friends are welcomed, though you might get some more abstract results for your really interesting animals.
Likewise, matches aren’t limited to museum pieces. You could see your parrot matched up to a piece of street art in New York or your cat to a statue in Egypt. Additionally, you can tap on your results to learn more about them, like stories about the art itself and its artist.
You can then download your results, either in single image format or a .gif slideshow and share them to social media, the penultimate location for pet pandering. The whole process is quick and easy to use. Just hit the colourful camera icon in the Arts & Culture app, take a snap of your pet, and you’re on your way.
