Phone batteries are temperamental things. There are few things worse than whipping out your phone to call an Uber at the end of the day only to find your phone at 5%. Except perhaps realising the battery that lasted you 14 good hours two years ago is now only good for 10. Over the past week or so, many iPhone users have been watching their batteries bleed around 30% in an hour, which is cause for concern. The cause? Spotify.
iPhone users might want to stick to Apple Music for now
iPhone users upgrading from iOS 14.8 to 15 have been flocking to Spotify’s support page to log their battery-related issues. The majority of complaints seem to concern the app’s battery usage, with one user explaining that their analytics showed that Spotify accounted for an entire half of their phone’s total battery usage. Other issues include phones overheating, and some crashing issues. This probably isn’t what users expected when they decided to stream the Billboard Hot 100.
“Battery would drain within an hour if I let it run,” reads one user’s post. “ I’ve soft reinstall, full wipe install, background turn off, all quality settings low and still it continues.”
“I have tried disconnecting the WIFI, toggling background app refresh, did the clean reinstall twice, restarted my phone multiple times, offloaded the app and deleted the cache, basically tried every solution mentioned on this website and nothing works. It’s really frustrating. This has been happening for DAYS,” reads another.
So far, Spotify support has offered a few generic fixes, such as restarting and/or reinstalling the app, or disabling ‘Background App Refresh’. A team is apparently looking into the issue for better solutions.
