Days after the official announcement of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra, the Fold 9 Ultra speculation has begun. Much about the upcoming device remains mysterious, but Korean tech forum users claim to know what changes are coming to the 9 Ultra’s camera setup. If they’re correct, this might be a new record for product leaks.
The information comes via a South Korean poster who reckons that Samsung has at least a few camera changes coming. These might be speculation or expectation. This early in the production cycle, it’s impossible to tell whether it’s accurate. But, given how Samsung has been upgrading its devices lately, a focus on camera tech seems likely.
Fold 9 Ultra snaps
According to the Korean poster, Samsung has plans for a new 200MP ISOCELL HP6 wide-angle sensor for the Galaxy Fold 9 Ultra. It’ll supposedly be joined by another new bit of camera hardware — a 50MP IMX854 5x periscope telephoto. That would considerably improve the still-mysterious foldable’s camera capabilities.
This also matches up to most of what is rumoured about the Galaxy S27 lineup’s camera functions. Samsung is expected to implement the same camera improvements in its upcoming flagship smartphone. Those details come from a more reliable source — leaker Ice Universe. And Samsung, historically, passes down its annual upgrades from its flagships to its foldables. Mostly.
In other words, even if the South Korean writer is just playing guessing games (and that’s likely the case here), they’re probably also not entirely wrong. Samsung will want to justify its new Ultra title for its headline foldable lineup. This is perhaps the best way for the company to do that.
