We don’t need to sugarcoat it. Google’s Veo 3 model, which lets anyone with enough disposable income generate move-level visuals (not to mention the voices to go along with them) from nothing, is perhaps one of the most advanced and terrifying things we’ve yet seen to come out of this AI era. And now it’s coming to YouTube.
Don’t slip in the AI slop
Specifically, YouTube Shorts. Instead of, uh, banishing the ‘AI slop‘ plaguing the platform in recent months, Google is bolstering it with the addition of Veo 3. Before, Veo 3 was limited to the folks willing to pay up the $250/m for Google’s AI Ultra Gemini tier, before it later relinquished limited access to Pro users. Now… we’re not so sure who it’s for.
“Today, I’m proud to share that Veo 3 will be coming to YouTube Shorts later this summer,” said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan. “I believe these tools will open new creative lanes for everyone to explore. But what’s even more exciting than what you see on the screen, is how AI is helping creatives behind the scenes.”
He would say that, wouldn’t he? Whatever gets the line to go up, and the shareholders hollering, right?

For the moment, however, it’s rather unclear what this integration will look like. As 9to5Google notes, it may simply be an expansion of the Veo models already available to creators, which allow them to create backgrounds using Dream Screen. We doubt, however, that Google would waste such revolutionary tech on backgrounds, and intends to waste it allowing Shorts creators to generate the umpteenth bit of brainrot in a single day.
More content equals more views equals more money. As if the 200-or-so billion daily views weren’t enough. Either way, it appears as though it won’t be long until we find out. Moohan reckons the integration will be ready as soon as “this summer”, meaning before August is over, if you’re reading this from somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere.
