The Vivo X200 Pro is officially available in South Africa – a first for the Chinese company, which has thus far been reluctant to introduce its flagship line-up to South Africa. That all changed this evening at the company’s launch event in Midrand. There’s just one problem: taking Vivo’s flagship X200 Pro under your wing isn’t cheap, setting you back a whopping R40,000.
We found the X(200 Pro)
“X200 Pro is crafted for those who seek the utmost in smartphone technology,” said Tony Shi, Vivo’s GM for South Africa. “Whether you’re a passionate photographer, an avid mobile gamer, or someone who values superior design and performance, the X200 Pro caters to all. It expands the horizons of what a smartphone can achieve, allowing users to capture and experience their surroundings in remarkably innovative ways.”
Vivo hasn’t brought with it the lower-spec (and definitively cheaper) Vivo X200 or X200 Pro Mini. But if you can stomach the extremely high entry fee, the X200 Pro looks set to compete with the best of them in 2025.
Up front sits the 6.78in LTPO AMOLED display that we can confirm looks excellent in hand. It’s bolstered by HDR10+ support, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 4,500 nits peak brightness. Oh, and lest we forget Dolby Vision support.
On paper, nothing can quite beat the X200 Pro’s supposed performance gains. It was the first smartphone to feature the Dimensity 9400 SoC, which could give it an edge over the rest when it comes to gaming, photography, and artificial intelligence.

Hogging all the attention this year, rightfully, is the X200 Pro’s camera, “co-engineered” with Zeiss. Vivo’s blown all the marketing budget to let you know that it houses a three-camera array ’round the rear – with a 50MP sensor leading the line-up. It’s coupled with a 200MP telephoto shooter, as well as a 50MP ultrawide to round it out. Embedded into its face is a 32MP camera that’ll give your Instagram profile a nice bump.
Vivo’s also going big on artificial intelligence this year, or as it likes to call it: Amplified Intelligence – three guesses where they got the idea? It’s got your standard smartphone AI features – automatic voice transcription, hundreds of image editing tricks, and smarter-than-usual notes. Nothing to write home about, in other words.
Finally, the X200 Pro rounds out the flagship specs with a 6,000mAh battery that puts Samsung and Apple’s similarly-priced efforts to shame, made even more attractive with the addition of 90W charging abilities.
From as early as today, the Vivo X200 Pro will be available from 7 February for R40,000 from “select” Vodacom stores and Amazon. You can also grab it on contract for R1,900/m over 24 months, or take the R1,400/m option over 36 months. Expect a review from Stuff soon, once we’ve had the chance to put all of Vivo’s bold claims to the test. You might want to hold off on that R40,000 until that happens, yeah?

Make it make sense please. I would definitely go for the Vivo, as I’ve had one in the past and think they’re actually currently leading the pack when it comes to android phones, but why are they charging us this much? Wtf
Bypass these money grabbing companies like Amazon and Vodacom who overcharge with disgustingly high prices, do your homework and bring it in yourself. Sounds like R20k profit per handset. Shame on you. You could get two and have about R10k left.
