Xiaomi to launch Mi Pad 5 tablets next week

Xiaomi has been in the news a lot lately. From surpassing Apple in second place in the global mobile market, going on to overtake Samsung as the top phone manufacturer in Europe, releasing a TV in India and now this. The company announced via a Weibo post that they will be reviving the Mi Pad range with the upcoming Mi Pad 5 line. If you aren’t on Weibo then you’ll have to take our word for it.

Who wants a Mi Pad 5? Do you? Because Mi do

It’s been four years since the Chinese company last released a tablet and it’s looking to wow with this new iteration. From some of the leaks (see above image), it looks like Xiaomi was rather inspired by Apple’s iPad Pro because the Mi Pad 5 looks an awful lot like it, from the design to the Magic Keyboard-like accessory and stylus that were also spotted in leaks. The only obvious difference being the very Xiaomi looking camera array on the rear.

It is rumoured that Xiaomi will be releasing three models to the world, the Mi Pad 5 with pro and lite versions. It has been foretold that all three will come sporting a 10.9in IPS LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The lite version will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 860 SoC while its two bigger brothers will have the ever so slightly more powerful Snapdragon 870.

Other numbers have been thrown around as well, like an 8,520 mAh battery. But why not just wait four days for 10 August to hear it from the proverbial horse (sorry Xiaomi). That’s one whole day before Samsung’s Unpacked event so whatever happens then, Xiaomi did it first.
