Man, people get nervous when Apple doesn’t do what it’s supposed to. The iPhone maker is usually predictable enough to set your calendar by but, if that were true, then this evening we’d be in for a lengthy reveal event detailing the iPhone 12 (and friends). Instead, all we’ve got is a rumour that Apple will announce its event details later today.
So it’s come to this
Yes, that means Apple’s event announcement timeline is news now. Notable Apple leaker Jon Prosser detailed when we can expect the fruit company to drop a press release. Which is a little ambiguous but it was followed by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman clarifying that we’re likely to get details on Apple’s (probably completely virtual) iPhone event rather than handset details.
Apple press release is currently scheduled for Tuesday (September 8) at 9:00am EST — though, I should note that it’s not locked in until the press has been briefed, day of.
I’ll tweet early that morning to update you if it changes.

The 9:00 EST time given for the press release translates to 15:00 SAST — so if you absolutely must know when Apple’s going to be revealing its new phone hardware, it’ll happen this afternoon. Our guess? Apple’s about to announced a 15 September reveal date, with pre-orders opening internationally immediately and (also, international) availability either on 2 October or sometime later in that month. It’s also possible that there’s a 10 September stream planned but that seems a little… short-notice for Apple. We’ll know for sure in just a few hours.
