Samsung’s always got a new phone on the way. It doesn’t matter when you ask, there’s always another one coming. Like this one — the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition 5G, which leaked thanks to the always on-the-ball OnLeaks and Pricebaba. Long story short, it looks like a full-fat Galaxy S20 but it cuts a few corners to make it more affordable.
Same great taste, fewer calories
The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition 5G isn’t official yet but the leaked render (above) comes with a whole lot of detail about what the handset will entail. It’ll fill the same role as the Galaxy S10 Lite did for the full-size Galaxy S10 — perhaps the name change tests better in terms of sales. Samsung has sold Fan Edition phones before, after all.
Expect the handset to be cheaper than the S20 by at least a few thousand bucks but expect stripped-back features as well. The screen’ll be around 6.4in in size, but it probably won’t be the same mad 120Hz display found on the S20. It may be 120Hz, though. Opinion is a little divided.
A Snapdragon 865 with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM is expected — whether there will be an Exynos version for countries that aren’t America isn’t known at this point.
Some liberties will be taken with the build. Instead of the all-glass rear, it’ll be a frosted or matte plastic but the sizeable camera bump will be there. Rumours suggest that the triple-camera will use at least one of the S20’s sensors — the main 12MP one. There’s also a second 12MP ultra-wide and an 8MP telephoto in store, with a 32MP sensor up front in the centre hole-punch position.
A 4,500mAh battery is said to handle power needs, and Samsung’s excellent Android skin will handle software. If it’s on the way, it’s coming soon; an October 2020 launch date is expected. There might also be a cheaper LTE version of the handset. As to where it’ll drop, that’s unknown. Knowing Samsung, we might just see it here — we got the S20 Lite, after all.
