Here are Vodacom’s recently announced 5G contract prices and where the 5G network is available

This week, Vodacom announced pricing for its 5G packages in South Africa. The 5G mobile network will be available in three prominent cities of South Africa, namely Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.

Vodacom’s 5G is available as a mobile network offering, as well as fixed-line services using a total of 20 5G sites. 18 of those are in Gauteng and two in Cape Town, but expansion is well on its way. Keen on some 5G goodness? The coverage map on Vodacom’s website looks a bit patchy. If you’re not located in the business hubs (like Sandton and Centurion or Midrand), go ahead and fugettaboutit for now.

Check out the coverage map for Vodacom’s 5G, and punch in your address to see if you’re a lucky winner. If you’re located in a 5G hotspot, congratulations! Check out the pricing below.

    Why 5G?

Why go 5G? The main reason for porting to 5G is increased network speeds that can peak well above 1Gbps (that’s 1,000Mbps, mind you). Very few fixed fibre connections produce Gbps speeds. But on average, users should get anything between 100Mbps and 200Mbps.

“Again, 5G is fast. Really fast. gigabits per second. That could mean loading an entire 4K film in under a minute, or live-streaming a virtual reality experience on the go. Users will also see an improvement in battery life due to faster transfer speeds and more efficient connectivity with IoT devices,” Vodacom says.

If you’ve already invested in a 5G device (choices are fairly limited at the moment), Vodacom has said that these users can have their existing SIM provisioned to allow for 5G speeds. The new 5G contract will be activated within a day.

    Vodacom 5G pricing

At this stage, Vodacom announced two time-locked types on contracts including 24-month contracts and 36-month contracts. Its contracts are bundled and priced according to the 5G router device users receive as well as the amount of data available.

Data packages include an amount of ‘Anytime Data’ as well as a ‘Night Owl’ allocation (eg: 200GB + 200GB).
