If you’ve been paying attention to your operating systems, you’ll notice that Windows 7 — if you’re still rocking the now-aged OS — isn’t officially supported any more. We’ve known this was coming for a long, long time. We certainly can’t say we weren’t warned. But the day (14 January) has come and gone, so if you’re still using Windows 7, you’re officially borked from this point on. Or are you…?

You know how it is: You want to get from point A to point B but you’ve seen everything on that route before. Or perhaps you’re just bored with reality. Microsoft’s DreamWalker hopes to help there. Man, these product tie-ins are getting complicated. Last week Microsoft teased a throwback to its initial Windows operation system, Windows 1.0. At the time, we had no idea why all the time travel. Now, we know. It was indeed a tie-in with Stranger Things Season 3, which released last week on that one holiday Americans are always surprised the rest of the world doesn’t celebrate.

What a time to be alive. Not only are we living in the future, it seems we’re also travelling back in time. You know, like tachyons. Why all the Doc Brown talk? Well, Microsoft’s teasing a little something called Windows 1.0. It seems to be be an obvious reference to Windows 10, based on the retro blue logo for the operating system. Weird how we never noticed that before.

The HoloLens is a powerful example of this, as multiple demonstrations of its capabilities showed. The original model was launched four years ago and was used by NASA for its Mars Rover mission. Because of the eight-minute delay in communications from earth to the red planet, controllers needed to map, plan and execute the path the rover would take, former NASA Administrator Charles Bolden told me last year.
