Apple’s scheduled an event for 25 March, and at it we’re expecting to see the company unveil both a subscription news service, Apple News, and a TV streaming service (name still to be confirmed/leaked).

Rumours of the new subscription services have been dropping like case-free smartphones, along with others that suggest we probably won’t see the highly-anticipated next-gen AirPods or the rumoured new iPad Mini revealed at the March event. Pity.

Fibre infrastructure company Vumatel has announced it’s in the process of rolling out thousands of smart CCTV cameras around Johannesburg’s suburbs via a subsidiary called Vumacam. It plans to deploy up to 15,000 cameras around the city, capable of capturing ultra-high-definition footage the company then plans to sell to security companies. The project is a joint venture between Vumatel and Imfezeko Holdings and has rolled out to over 900 poles (each of which can house multiple cameras) to date.

Virtual reality is coming to homes. Or, at least, it’s getting closer than it has at any point in its surprisingly lengthy history. The next arrival may be via computer maker HP, which has a Windows Mixed Reality headset on the way. Codenamed ‘Copper’, the in-development VR hardware has one thing in particular going for it — resolution. Lots and lots of resolution.
