The iPad Pro might be a timid Apple rumour in comparison to the tonne of Watch and iPhone rumours the internet normally churns out, but that doesn’t mean it’s dead and buried. New photos courtesy of serial Apple-leaker Sony Dickinson show off some over-sized third party iPad cases which are far too roomy for any of the models currently available. Dickinson believes that these cases are for the long-rumoured 12.2-12.9in iPad Pro, which officially, doesn’t exist. The cases don’t tell us much about the mysterious tablet, although it interestingly appears to have two Lightning (or USB-C) ports – one on…

If you found yourself on Twitter at the right time yesterday, you might’ve noticed the immense outpouring of emotions over the release of the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Episode VII) trailer, as the Star Wars Celebration expo kicked off in Anaheim, California. Fans shared stories of crying at their desks at work, filled with the promise of a brand new Star Wars adventure. Others started dissecting its contents – lovingly – to sort out the details behind what was just shown. And nearly everyone agreed on something, for once: that was one heck of a trailer. It was…

Unless you ran out of data yesterday afternoon and fell victim to extreme loadshedding, you’ll know there’s a new trailer out for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens (watch it over here). To add to the hype, Twitter has created a range of Star Wars emojis that are triggered when Twitter users use particular hashtags. Twitter’s partnered with Disney and Lucasfilms to create custom emojis that appear when the following hashtags are included in tweets: #C3PO, #Stormtrooper, or #BB8. The emoji only appear in the browser version of Twitter or its own mobile apps, so those using third-party apps…

The iPhone 7 could very well land with a body forged from Apple’s own 7000 series aluminium – the same material that makes up the Apple Watch Sport. If Taiwan’s Economic Daily News is correct, this means that the next iPhone’s metal body will be 60 percent stronger than the metal currently used in its phones, thanks to Apple’s metal alloy mixing tweaks. Despite its increased toughness and resistance to scratches, this aluminium alloy is also only one-third the density of steel, making it lighter too. It will also presumably be blasted with minuscule zirconia beads, which is the process…

The Huawei P8 Max is the big daddy version of the 5.2-inch Huawei P8, for people who just have to have that larger screen. And when we say ‘larger screen’ we really mean it. It’s a 6.8-inch whopper of an IPS display, although given that it has to make do with a 1080p resolution, its 323 pixels-per-inch might not satisfy the most discerning of screen freaks among you. Huawei claims it brings awesome colour to the table, though. To try and make use of that ridiculously huge screen, the P8 Max lets you run a couple of apps side-by-side, just…

We just checked our calendar to make sure that Duracell’s latest smartphone accessory isn’t an April Fool’s joke. But it seems that was two weeks ago, so it can’t be. The Wireless Charging ring is a product designed to bestow wireless charging powers on devices that lack that ability. Sounds good, right? Unfortunately not. The whole point of wireless charging is to eliminate the need to plug anything into your phone’s charging port. You’re simply meant to place your device on a wireless charging pad, and leave it there. Boom – simple. Duracell’s ‘solution’ involves plugging a giant clunky ring…

No, what you see in front of you is not a pair of Elvis Presley’s long-lost sunglasses, nor is it a ridiculously late April Fool’s Day joke, but a new augmented reality concept from Mini that could completely the change the way we drive. Set to be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show next week, Augmented Vision uses “see through” technology that allows the augmented reality glasses to beam a whole host of information into the driver’s eye line without distracting him or her from the road ahead. Navigation will be one of the main features, with the system able…

Revealed last month alongside the new MacBooks and the Apple Watch launch details, ResearchKit was a surprising turn for Apple – a “help the world” initiative surrounded by lavish, beautiful consumer products. And now it’s opening up wide. Apple has announced that the ResearchKit framework is now available for all developers and researchers to tap into, letting them design custom apps for testing health ailments via an iPhone, or letting them create specialised research modules. Last month, ResearchKit launched in a limited trial with five initial apps developed with key partners, and Apple says that more than 60,000 iPhone users…

Apple has sent out its official (and colourful) invitations to its yearly Worldwide Developer Conference. There are very few solid details regarding what we’ll actually see take centre-stage at the event on 8 June, but we expect to see our first look at iOS 9, as well as some tasty new apps and features for the fresh-faced Apple Watch. We also expect Apple to finally lift the curtains off its long-rumoured Beats-powered music streaming streaming service, which will use Beats Music’s existing features like curated playlists, cloud-based libraries and recommendations to compete with the likes of Spotify, Rdio and Tidal.…

Every top smartphone needs to aim for a USP. The Galaxy S6 has all that fancy glass while the Huawei P8 has an even skinnier frame without a camera lens that sticks out like a skin tag. Huawei played the same trick with the Huawei Ascend P7. We didn’t swoon over it, but can the P8 turn things around? The Huawei P8 is just 6.4mm thick and made of metal, making it a whopping 0.1mm thinner than Huawei’s last slim flagship. Yes, we’re being sarcastic, but it sure is thin. You’ll be able to get the phone in four shades:…
