Samsung have always gone all out with their Galaxy lineup, with the devices carrying the same numerals as their flagship having more attention lavished on their development than other, less bright stars. Now, with Samsung’s lineup undergoing a spot of pruning, those Galaxy Mega-Super-Deluxe handsets will possibly be going away. Stalwarts like the ‘mini’ version of the Galaxy S flagships, in this case the Galaxy S5 mini, will probably be sticking around though. If you’re a parent and you’ve never ever heard of Skylanders, then you’re probably a parent with a much happier bank account than most – Skylanders is a console game series that features collectible figurines that can, with the help of a ‘portal’ be inserted into the game. Data for the figures is stored on the little plastic statue itself so you can swap them between supported games. But there are a lot of these collectibles available for the various incarnations of Skylanders, an offshoot of the Spryo the Dragon series that made gamers from the Playstation One days very…

We’ve lost Toby. Not really, but he’s been away from his desk again so hosting duties for StuffCentral this week were taken over by Liron Segev once again. This week Liron featured Tech Girl Za editor and Sliced Magazine writer Sam Wright as a guest on the show. On the menu this week was a whole laundry list of the latest and greatest in tech, taking us very far from the savage beginnings where internet was something you used to catch fish. As per usual, you can listen to the stream here, or download it for later consumption using a…

An Acer tablet – somehow we have trouble connecting those words in our heads. Intellectually we’re well aware that Acer makes tablet hardware but we tend to think of their notebook range in South Africa. Tablets are things that come from Samsung and Apple. Still, Acer have taken a decent crack at the tablet market with this 8-inch Android slate, which packs in some interesting hardware to further our confusion about this device. As unexpected as the Iconia Tab 8 (the A1-840 model, if you’re interested) is, it’s also a lot of fun to use and, by the feel of…

Kyrat is designed to be a playground for the trigger-happy, a place where you can roam the Himalayas fighting off tigers, soldiers, rhinos and elephants to your heart’s content. It’s also going to be a place where nasty things happen, thanks to Pagan Min and his collection of minions who seem just as insane as he is. This is the world of Far Cry 4 and Ubisoft, in keeping with recent tradition and the launch of the game just around the corner, have released another 101 video giving players and potential players an overview of what to expect from their…

We’re one step closer to life imitating art, or life imitating whatever you’d call the films that Michael Bay makes. We’re not snobs, they’re fun. But mankind has reached a space milestone with the landing last night of a probe on a comet as it whizzes through space like a taxi with unlimited fuel. The result of ten years of flight by the Rosetta orbiter, which was launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) back in 2004, the Philae lander/probe that touched down on the 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko comet last night is the culmination of a whole mass of scientific effort. It’s…

It’s not all that often that we get this much notice when it comes to smartphone releases but Huawei have gone and done it, letting us know that there will be two new phones in their lineup in early 2015. Unfortunately we have not been made privy to any specific launch dates but we do know the price range for the phones – which is something, at least. The handsets in question are Huawei’s Ascend Mate7 and the Ascend G7 LTE, which are a high-end 6-inch (possibly) dual-SIM and a 5.7-inch mid-range-ish phone respectively. The Ascend G7 will arrive with…
