It’s been a week since Huawei launched its Mate 20 Pro smartphone in London, and early indications are its triple rear camera setup might make it this year’s phone camera to beat. We’ve been snapping all sorts of test shots to see whether the results live up to Huawei’s marketing hype, and off the bat we can tell you this: with its ultra-wide, wide, zoom and macro chops, it’s so flexible a shooter it’d make a yogi master (or assassin) jealous. Which can also mean they’re designed to be so pleasant one doesn’t mind working the long hours being on the bleeding edge of contemporary tech culture often demands. Facebook actually has two offices in England’s biggest city, the one we visited in Rathbone Place in the Fitzrovia neighbourhood, which…

We know that, infuriatingly, Google doesn’t offer its hardware in South Africa, and if you want to get it you’ll either have to buy it from an importer, or bring it in yourself. But we also know that doesn’t mean you don’t want to know about it. Which is why we’re bringing you this round up of the announcements from Google’s Made By event for 2018. While the rumour mill was most excited about the Pixel 3 handsets, it’s the Google Hub that we’re the most interested in getting our mitts on, so we’re going to start there. https://youtu.be/J6qbVlCKKU0 Hubber…

Reports emerged yesterday that some Israeli WhatsApp users’ accounts have been hacked, and that the problem is sufficiently widespread that the Israeli government has seen fit to send out a warning about it. Leave a message The hack exploits the fact that many consumers never change their voicemail PIN from the default ‘0000’ or ‘1234’. Hackers use WhatsApp’s security mechanism whereby it calls users with a spoken verification code when those sent by SMS are unsuccessful. By timing the requests for verification codes for late at night, or other times when they know users are away from their phones, they…

Unboxing videos are one of the curiosities of the internet. For reasons that largely elude us, people seem to love them. Maybe it’s the vicarious equivalent of unwrapping presents on your birthday. Maybe it’s the thrill that only well-designed packaging can deliver. Or maybe the internet is just a strange place and we shouldn’t overthink things. Whatever the reason, we’ve gone ahead and shot a pair of unboxing videos of Apple’s latest kit — the iPhone XS and the Apple Watch Series 4 — for your viewing pleasure. Both devices went on sale locally today. First up, there’s the iPhone…
