The Chinese smartphone maker, Vivo Mobile has officially launched in South Africa. What does that mean? More budget-phone options for Saffas, that’s what.
Who’s Vivo though? Remember the first smartphone to ever have an in-display fingerprint sensor? Yeah, that’s them. Vivo specialises in the mid-range and budget category though, which is why it has decided to launch the Y11 and Y91C in SA. Both these devices retail for less than R3,000.
Y?
The Y11 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439, 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage — which is very much in line with budget-specs. The standout features, however, are the 6.35in display and its 5,000mAh battery cell. Considering we could be moving into another era of darkness (ahem, load shedding) — a big battery is a good thing, eh?
On the other hand, its smaller buddy, the Y91C runs on a MediaTek Helio P22, 2GB of RAM and also has 32GB storage space. Both of the Y’s have memory card slots, and storage can be increased with up to 256GB cards. Both also run Android, but have a Vivo skin called FunTouch. We’ll have to play with it a bit, then we’ll let you know how it functions.
Both the Y11 and Y91C are available in SA from 7 December. The Y11 will cost R2,700 and the Y91C just R1,900.
