Probably the only good load shedding news to come out of SA, is that locally developed load shedding push-notification app EskomSePush gained hundreds of thousands of downloads this week.
The app only had 2,500 active users a week ago, and since load shedding was implemented, more than 400,000 people have downloaded the app. Now that’s what we call a quick turnaround.
According to Business Insider, the app was created by two South Africans as a side project back in 2014, but it has since grown into the most-downloaded South African iOS app. On the Google Play Store, it’s the second most downloaded app in SA, behind WhatsApp of all things.
EskomSePush gives users access to the full load shedding schedule, with regular updates about Eskom’s current status. The app sends real-time push notifications on your phone when a new stage is implemented, and what time your area is scheduled for darkness.
You can download the EskomSePush app both for iOS and Android, to ensure you can make alternative plans and get the braai ready when an outage is planned. Check out our load shedding survival guide if you’re looking for a bit more advice on getting through these dark times.
