Huawei may have been paying attention to our review of the Pura 90s Pro (and others). While the phone itself is well worth your money, it was missing one component the Pura 80 Pro had: a 1in camera sensor. Rumours from China now reckon that Huawei will correct that oversight.
Information leaked by Digital Chat Station on China’s Weibo social network tends to be on the money. The current prediction is that a Pura 90 Plus handset is in the offing. The major change is the return of that lamented camera sensor.
Pura 90 again
It’s the 50MP variable aperture that Digital Chat Station gets specific about. It’ll be “this year’s only 50MP 1-inch RYYB variable aperture main camera [Google Translate].” That’s something big to brag about if you’re Huawei. Unfortunately, the 90 Plus doesn’t have any other hardware information beyond the 6.8in display and upcoming triple camera arrangement. Oh, and the codename: Lucia.
If you’re especially keen on details, Huawei’s supposed to have a raft of new colour choices coming for the 90 Plus. These include “Obsidian Black, Snow White, Dawn Gold, and Sunset Purple.” There’s no Orange Soda on the list, but we suspect the purple phone will be similarly stylish. The others promise to be more conventional, despite their lofty names.
If the company follows the pattern set by the Pura 80 Pro, the camera setup will see that 50MP sensor have a variable aperture of f/1.6 to f/4.0. Huawei might stick with the 48MP telephoto/40MP ultrawide from its last phone. It could also borrow the 200MP telephoto seen in the Pura 90 Pro Max, if it really wants to impress everyone.
There are no specifics about the 90 Plus launch date beyond “soon,” but it’ll turn up before the end of the year. In China, at least. We’d expect to see something local, if it makes it over, early in 2027.
